Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh’s deepest secret: a warren of hidden ‘closes’ where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned…until now. Visit Edinburgh's most famous Close, which makes...more

very interesting tour well worth seeing. not good for people with mobility problems as it can get quite steep and uneven. our guide Steve T. was great -very information and a great character. would definitely say pay this a visit
This is a great place for adults and children. I wouldn’t recommend this for small children or those with difficulty when walking as there are lots of narrow steps and stairs. It is also very dark so could be frightening for smaller children.
I have been here a few times with different people and have to say I have enjoyed the experience so when friends who were visiting Edinburgh asked where to go I suggested Mary King's Close.
Having been before I kind of knew the 'route' that...More
Booked 5 tickets through TripAdvisor. Ticket stated “morning tour”. Arrived late morning for the tour, woman behind the desk looked at the tickets and pointed out in very fine print at the bottom at time of 10.15. I had mistaken that for a booking date....More

Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.

There was some talk about a suffering ghost of a little girl in my tour, and some other ghosts that appear in the local. A kid may believe in this information. But probably if the kids dont get scared they will get bored, as there is very little to see, it is more just talking.
