St Columba obviously meets the needs of the a Catholic community in Oban and the islands but, that apart, the building lacks character. The man altar is impressive but the the grey granite is somewhat overpowering.
The interior is in some way quite bare in comparison to other RC churches, however this enhances the building rather than detracts from it. The altar decoration depicts St Columba, as you would expect, but it really is quite magnificent and beautifully carved.
This is a lovely. Catholic Cathedral that is simple and understated.
It is a lovely walk along the port to the cathedral and it was extremely quiet which made for a great visit.
