- Gaynor91Cardiff, United Kingdom613 contributionsThe Titanic, very movingWent to see The Titanic in May of this year. Staff were pleasant and efficient, showing us to our seats as soon as the doors opened. Thorougly enjoyed the show, the cast were magnificent. We were sat in the front row, and felt we were actually on the ship, very moving, and very sad but great performances throughoutWe're glad you enjoyed the performance of Titanic The Musical. We had a lot of feedback from our staff and audiences expressing similar thoughts and feelings to yourself.Written 1 August 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited May 2023Written 24 June 2023

- Richard_TenbyTenby, United Kingdom28 contributionsRegular visits to The New Theatre CardiffWe regularly attend both plays and musicals at The New Theatre. We have always been warmly welcomed and have always found the staff to be helpful and attentive. Dependant on the type of show and our budget we have sat in all areas of the theatre (apart from the boxes) and we have never had an issue with the views. The most recent visit was last Wednesday night to see "Quiz" based on the coughing Major in Who wants to be a Millionaire which was a fantastic show. Also very fortunate to see Rory Bremner the following day in Cardiff and to have the opportunity to tell him how good the show was even though the number of seats sold were very disappointing. Looking forward to our next visit :)Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023

- Jason Curvis20 contributionsFiona was amazingBooked 2 tickets to see Luther Live. Unfortunately there was a group in front of us who were loud, drunk and chatting which was spoiling the show for the rest of us! At the interval I spoke with Fiona who is a volunteer usher, who at ease and very quickly re-located us further down away from the group in question! I spoke to her after and offered some money as a thank you for a drink or coffee, but was informed she couldn’t take a tip! So I will donate £10 to a homeless charity this week as a thank you! I’ve visited the theatre many times and have had great interactions with Fiona! A lovely profession person! Thank you xVisited February 2024Travelled on businessWritten 26 February 2024
- Beth ECaerphilly, United Kingdom518 contributionsAlways a great experienceI love coming here and the performances are always first rate. It's really easy to book and tickets are sent via email now, which is much better than of picking up at the box office or having them delivered. We went to a Saturday matinee and it was fully booked, but ordering drinks, and getting in and out was really organised so we didn't have to wait for long. Brilliant experience, as alwaysVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 March 2024

The act, Frank Skinner, was very good but the theatre is looking old and tired. Queues for the toilets, even the gents, were very long.

3 of us went to see The Illegal Eagles, they were brilliant, very professional and the sound was so good, highly recommend seeing them
We all enjoy a drink now & again but
unfortunately what spoilt it was allowing the sale of alcohol to continue whilst the show is on, people constantly getting up during the show to get another drink, using the toilet, it totally disrupted our view on several occasions, the 2 men in front of me & my mum were drinking, chatting taking videos, it was incredibly frustrating, they were told to stop by the security, I didn't feel comfortable asking them to stop myself as they had consumed a lot of alcohol and if they had become aggressive my mum who is 74 years old would have panicked
Please stop selling alcohol during the show, keep it to before and during the interval
Prices of the alcohol was absolutely shocking £8.10 single gin & tonic, pint of Heineken £7.40, a single glass of prosecco was £9.75, way overpriced!!!!!

This is purely a review of the venue so I'm not naming the show we saw. Unfortunately, like many old theatres, this place is totally unsuitable for modern audiences. To begin with, tickets were being checked at the door before being allowed inside - maybe this works on a summer afternoon but not on a chilly February evening with rain in the air. Although the queue moved relatively quickly, this wasn't a good start.
Once inside, there was a security person at the bottom of the stairs although it wasn't clear whether we needed to stop or not. We eventually made it to our seats in the circle and I have to say that this was one of the most physically uncomfortable evenings that I've experienced for a long time. I'm only around 5"10, but there was virtually no leg room at all - we were on the end of a row and I spent most of the performance with my legs in the aisle. The seats were also under-padded and started to give us both backache after a while. The venue also needs to have a latecomers policy - a few were admitted after the show had started and were typically booked for the middle of our row, meaning that us and six others had to stand up to let them in, missing part of the show which had already started - this happened again after the interval.
Charging £4.50 for a tiny tub of ice cream also smacks of profiteering and the money is clearly not going back into the theatre as the overall atmosphere was tired and one of faded grandeur. The best thing to do for the New Theatre would be to close as a performance venue and maybe run it as a theatre museum as it's just not suitable for anyone of average height/build or above. I can't think of any show or act that would attract me to come here again.

This venue does not accept cash. This is discriminatory against anyone who either can’t or doesn’t want to use cards. I won’t be going there again and neither will my friends. CASH IS KING. Use it or lose it.

Taking a 2 year old and 3 year old to watching Justin live at the new theatre in cardiff tomorrow and we are sitting in the upper circle row D. Will they have a hard view of the stage from that far?

Can you tell me what safety measures will be in place now with the new COVID guidelines re wearing of masks? We have tickets to panto but bringing elderly relatives & children we are a bit concerned about safety of a very packed theatre

I would like to take my 9 year old granddaughter to see a show at the New Theatre but as neither of us has been to this theatre before I am unsure as to which seats would give us the best overall view. I would appreciate advice from anyone who has been to this venue but especially those who have taken children of a similar age. Thank you.

1. What are the views like from the boxes?
2. I am planning on taking grandchildren to the Panto. Is a box a good idea?

The views are very slightly obstructed of the far side of the stage. It doesn't detract at all from the experience. I already booked a box for this year's panto.
