Southern England is chequered with history, and as an avid follower of English history, this is a venue that has to be on your bucketlist. Old Sarum is hugging the outskirts of Salisbury. This was a major centre of government and the earliest fortification was...More

Think I might be something of a Luddite! Old Sarum is obviously impressive, connected as it is to all that's nearby in Salisbury and it always amazes me that we can walk in the footsteps of people who have preceded us centuries before and this...More

Spent a pleasant hour touring the ruins - the story boards erected by English Heritage really help you imagine what the site must have looked like hundreds of years ago. It was very cold and exceptionally muddy, so stout shoes were the order of the...More

Old Sarum is an interesting hill fort, steeped in history and a lovey morning out... its even better viewed from the air, which I am lucky enough to do weekly when I fly from the nearby airfield. Worth a visit if you're in the area,...More

My children and their cousins rate this as one of the best places for a windy picnic with the most stunning views across Salisbury and beyond.

We visit Old Sarum a few times a year for walks... it's not a huge site but it's full of history. The ruins are lovely and the whole site is basic yet unspoilt, such a gem.

If you like your history or are a tourist to the area then this place is a must see. You won’t be the first visitor here as the Neolithics, Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings and Normans all beat you to it!

if you just want to see the ruins maybe 90 mins or so depending if you walk the surrounds. why not add in a picnic or visit the pub avross tne road. If you're trying to cram, combine with stonehenge and Salisbury city. Enjoy
