Old Sarum is set within the massive ramparts of a first century Roman/British hill fort. The Normans built their own castle within this and a cathedral and ruins survive today. Nothing remains of the town that once sat here. The town moved to the more...More

We nearly didn't go here but are so pleased that we did. The young men at the visitor centre were welcoming and informative. As you go round, ther are picture boards which bring each area to life. I am not a historian really, but the...More

I had researched Old Sarum before I visited but I was still amazed. There are some amazing views so bring your camera. You can see Salisbury Cathedral from the south side of old Sarum.

Well preserved and presented ruins. A significant location with a great history. Reasonable entrance fee and free for English heritage members. Also some stunning views of Salisbury and the surrounding area.

We popped in as we’re English Heritage members. There’s not a huge amount to see but we did love the views and the wonderful ramparts as well as looking down on the site of the original Salisbury cathedral.

Situated high on a hill, the site is much bigger than you might expect, the castle is really huge and it is easy to see how it dominated the landscape, especially with a cathedral a short distance away. The views are really spectacular

if you just want to see the ruins maybe 90 mins or so depending if you walk the surrounds. why not add in a picnic or visit the pub avross tne road. If you're trying to cram, combine with stonehenge and Salisbury city. Enjoy
