Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm a Nottingham Forest fan of nearly 40 years and so my review of The City Ground may not be the most balanced you are ever going to read.
I live the place with a passion, as I have watched hundreds of games, with all the associated passion and drama, played out on that hallowed turf. I've also watched a load of dross on it too.
As much as I love the place, I am not blind to some of the issues, albeit minor ones, that exist at the true home of football.
One of these is the concourses, none of which are that wide, causing a huge cramped mess at half time when everyone pours into them for beer, pies and toilet visits. You literally cannot move in places. The toilets are somewhat antiquated, too. In addition, the whole place looks in need of a lick of paint. Much had been spent on doing up the media and corporate facilities (in light of Forest's recent Premier League status) but the general finish of the everyman stands is somewhat dated and in need of upkeep.
Basically it is a 20th Century stadium in the 21st Century and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact I prefer it this way. The stadium retains character and soul, unlike the identikit bowls so fancied by other Premier League/Championship clubs. I believe that is what gives The City Ground its unique feel and is one of the reasons so many away fans spoke so highly of it last season.
The ground has four stands: The Main Stand (now called The Peter Taylor Stand), The Bridgford Stand, The Brian Cough Stand and The Trent End. The latter was rebuilt back in about 1994 (again, when Forest got back into The Premier League) and unfortunately was built in such a way as to make the acoustics absolutely dismal. Unless you are sat in The Trent End (which I try not to be, as I don't like sitting behind goals) then you wouldn't know rhey made a sound. The noise is just lost in the shoddy acoustics of the design. Ironically, the lousedt stand is frequently The Peter Taylor Stand, which is by far and away the smallest stand.
Indeed, The Peter Taylor Stand is due development, but this work keeps getting pushed back and back due to some red tape/building regulations or something. It is in need of work - it bears all the hallmarks of the 1970s and, whilst this was a great time for Forest, it wasn't the pinnacle of stadium design and so The Peter Taylor Stand desperately needs bringing up to speed with the rest of the ground. It will also allow Forest to expand upon their 30,000 (approx) capacity and capitalise on the fact that so many young new fans want to attend matches.
I would be devastated if Forest ever left this hallowed place. I love it.
Incidentally, and for the record, my visit was to watch Forest labour to a 2-2 draw with Blackpool in the FA Cup 3rd Round. It was tosh.
I'll still be back though...

I've been following Nottingham Forest for over 30 years and in that time the one constant has been The City Ground.
I've seen approximately 70,000 managers and 250,000 players, however they have all plied their trade in this hallowed cathedral of football.
We must be grateful that Forest, newly returned to the Premier League don't forget, have not gone chasing the money by building a new, bigger stadium that would almost certainly lack all of the character and passion of the City Ground. You know Forest have more fans than are presently able to attend matches due to the health and safety clip board brigade.
Instead, Forest are planning on extending the Main Stand (or Peter Taylor Stand as it is now known) to enable higher attendance. The Main Stand/Peter Taylor Stand does very much stand out like a sore thumb. Whilst the money raised during the legendary Brian Clough era was used to upgrade the other three stands in the ground, the Main Stand remains a bit of a relic of times gone by.
Whilst I fully understand the clubs decision, I shall be a bit sad to see the Main Stand go through its gentrification process, as I like it just as it is.
Behind the seating, in the concourses, every stand is pretty much the same. Everything is too narrow for the sheer volume of people. Heaven forbid, but were there to be a fire and you'd never get out. It took me 10 minutes to move about 25 yards at half time on Wednesday night, and that was in a crowd of people queuing for beer and Bovril.
The place had had a bit of TLC applied to it over the years but there is no doubt it could use a little more. You can see that it in the gantries and around the overall structure, but I am confident that this will happen over time. The "new" owners seem to put their money where their mouth is, so I expect to see things improve in that department, not least of all in the aforementioned Peter Taylor/Main Stand, which is getting a vast amount of money spent on bringing it up to date with modern standards. Yes, character will be lost, but apparently this is the price of progress these days.
Forest have resisted the urge to build a soulless bowl of a stadium (see Derby County/Leicester City) and the club is all the better for it. Forest without the City Ground would simply not be the same.
Parking around the stadium is incredibly poor. The Brian Clough stand has a large(ish) car park but this soon fills up. The Main Stand also had one, but it is neither use jor ornament truth be told, and so really public transport is the only way to get to the ground. Parking in West Bridgford will see you lumbered with a parking fine, and parking in The Meadows will ensure you never see your car again.
Public transport links to the ground are good and frequent, and so access should never be an issue.
All in all I rate this place 5/5. I might be slightly biased, but I don't care. It's brilliant.

The City Ground my friend & I last visit on Bonfire day, excellent atmosphere and great power in the crowd during the game which Forest deserved so much more and didn't get thanks to the ref, but ultimately it was a very entertaining game, great day out.

My favourite place in the whole wide world. The smell of burger vans as you walk over Trent Bridge. Yes, it needs a lick of paint. Yes, it needs a good clean. But this is history.

Finally managed to get a ticket to the City Ground for a game in the Premiership, a few subtle changes since being out of it for 23 years, but the result was awful team played well in the 1st half and didn't turn up in the 2nd half, won't be back for a while.

The recent change in performance makes a trip yo the City Ground a very pleasant day out, more goals, more wins and a cracking atmosphere, stay until the end to chant along with an early Depeche mode song

The City Ground Saturday afternoon visit with covid entry restrictions was relatively easy to get in and with over 26,000 in attendance proved it can work. Couple of beers at the ground, lively match and all round entertaining win, U Reds!

First time visit for almost eighteen months due to covid restrictions, enjoyable day watching Forest not lose in the sun, reasonable crowd, some singing by the crowd and well worth a trip, will be back again soon to cheer on the new manager. With a couple of beers before the start.

Decent stadium with good views for away fans and enough food and drink options nearby to suit all budgets and tastes. So much better than the modern soulless bowls.

Sending my dad to watch forest play against reading, what seats do I buy? Need 2 decent seats that aren't with the reading supporters..

I know the match was called off at the last minute but if your dad ever wants to come again let me know. The seats go on sale about a month before the match. It all depends weather you want sit along side the pitch or behind the goal. I sit behind the goal at the Bridgford end and have done since the stand opened in 1994. I could even buy tickets for you.
