The beautiful Grade II* Listed Delapré Abbey, just one mile from Northampton town centre, is entering an exciting new phase in its history. Following the success of a Heritage Lottery Fund application in 2013, a £7 million project has seen this once "Building At Risk" undergo substantial repair and restoration works over the last 3 years. The Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust worked with Northampton Borough Council to involve the community and volunteers in the restoration project with open days, education projects, and public events and activities. Now, the Abbey has opened its doors to the public for the first time in its 900 year history, with The Trust managing the building as a fantastic historic venue for local, national, and even international visitors. We can’t wait for you to explore the stories of Delapré Abbey’s past with us!

How wonderful to be able to visit a historic house without constantly panicking that small children are about to smash a priceless Ming vase!! From the wooden Tudor food in the Zouch Tate kitchen to the vintage table skittles in the library, Delapre Abbey has...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, even though it is on our doorstep, did not realise exactly how much history surrounds the place and surrounding grounds. Totally fascinating and extremely well done. Will definately recommend and come again. Only point to make is that the cafe...More

I didn't realise so much had happened on or near this site over the centuries. The guide was absolutely brilliant - so knowledgable and amusing. You need to arrive by about 11.30 though to get a guided tour (included in the ticket price), otherwise you...More

Came to see the vintage fayre. There wasn’t much of of a fayre. Rather a couple of stalls in a small room. Rather dissapointing to be honest.

I brought my nephew who's just finished studying history A level. I'm local so it's wonderful to see Northampton's history brought to life. There's ample free parking, a lift to facilitate the less able bodied or pushchair, a trail for younger children to follow round...More

We really enjoyed hearing the history of the abbey and the explanation of the battle of Northampton. The building has been comfortably restored and the fact that we could sit on the sofas and chairs was a nice touch. We hope it will be kept...More

Attended an excellent talk here given by Bill who certainly knew his stuff. The talk lasted for about 50 minutes and I didn’t look at my watch once so it must have been good. It has an interesting history and has only just opened after...More
