London is best explored at street level to get the full flavour of this remarkable city. Charnowalks offers walking tours of the City of London and the East End by a qualified guide who is also a lifelong East Ender. Each Charnowalks tour focuses on...more

Was very informative and really exciting. He has a clear passion for history that is very apparent in the tour. He's very knowledgeable and we learned so much by the time the tour was done. We visited as part of a research project on princesses,...More

It was a pleasure to meet you and Martin, Ana, and to share some of the City's stories with you both. I hope the material helped with your project. It was a shame the Guildhall wasn't open, but do let me know if you're over...More
Even if you are familiar with the territory, David manages to conjure up fascination out of the simplest of artefacts or locations. As the hurly-burly of the 21st century London was rushing by, the story telling made it an insightful trip into the social conditions...More

Thanks very much for taking the time to review me, Dennis. I'm glad you both enjoyed the tour, and that it succeeded in evoking Dickensian London in the midst of the present day. I hope that perhaps it has sharpened your appetite for Dickens: if...More
I've been on a number of David's walks, and always write about them on my blog (don't think I can publicise that here though). He is so knowledgeable about London, particularly the City and East London. I recommend them to everyone I know.

Thanks, Susan; it's always a pleasure to have you along, and I'm honoured that you consider my tours to be of sufficient calibre to appear on your blog.
I have been on many of David's walks. I have enjoyed each and every one of them. He has a way of taking you back in history, without making you feel stupid about your lack of knowledge. The walks are nicely paced. I have lived...More

Thanks for your kind review, Ann. I'm glad to have opened up new areas of London for you, and to have brought out some surprises from behind more familiar sights. It's always a pleasure to have you along.
David gave us a most interesting and informative walk along the Thames from Mansion House to Tower Bridge, he was very professional and knew his stuff inside out!
I feel a new enthusiasm for my home city.More

Thank you very much for such a positive review, Jane. One of the joys of guiding is to increase and enhance the experience of London for locals. There are always new things to find and new stories to hear, however long you've lived here. I...More
My sister and I went on a tour with David around the East End learning about gangsters through the ages and the beginnings of the police force. Fascinating. Will be going again.

Thanks very much for your positive review: I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. It was a pleasure to take you both round and hopefully to open up some of the lesser-known aspects of our darker side here in the Green!
David's walking tour of Bethnal Green "Just You Wait and See" was great. Taking in wartime tragedies, local politics and many interesting buildings, David is a deep well of knowledge about Bethnal Green and he went over and above what I expected of the tour....More

It was a pleasure to share some of my area's story with you, Jackie. It was especially pleasing that you got so much out of the tour, which I designed to give as full an exploration as I could of the impact of World War...More
My partner and I did Dave's Aldgate walk last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were part of a small group who asked a multitude of questions and I was dead impressed that he was able to answer them all!
