Whispers of advertising past are the focus of these walking tours through Stoke Newington (North London) and Bankside (South London), taking in some of London's best ghostsigns (painted signs, fading on walls). These are used to explore local, craft and advertising history through their unique stories and survival against the odds. Described as 'fascinating' by Londonist, the tour will inspire you to start spotting ghostsigns everywhere you go with an appreciation of their history and place in contemporary urban streetscapes. The tour is led by ghostsigns expert and local resident, Sam Roberts, curator of the History of Advertising Trust Ghostsigns Archive and author of numerous articles and book contributions on the topic.

Spotting fading advertisements painted onto the sides of buildings may sound nerdy, but walking round the back streets of Southwark with Sam was great fun. I should think many of the walkers on this tour will now be looking out for ghost signs in their...More

A great walk over the weekend on the Bankside Ghostsign tour! Myself and Dad have walked around the area many times over the year yet missed most of the ghostsigns present. Sam not only spots them where most the public would not see, but also...More

Sam put it pretty straightforwardly as we all first gathered together: "You're all here to look at old paint on brick walls right?". Like looking at a Magic Eye book, 12 of us huddled together on street corners of Stoke Newington to decipher the faint...More

Most tours run on Sundays. All the dates and times are listed on the tours page of the Ghostsigns website. The next available date is 1st February, with roughly one tour each month after that.
