Beautiful Victorian cemetery near to Hampstead Heath. Highgate Cemetery has some of the finest funerary architecture in the country. It is a place of peaceful contemplation where trees, memorials and wildlife flourish.

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the West Cemetery - our tour guide Peter was really informative friendly and funny. Pointed out a number of headstones of interesting characters from years gone by. The catacombs are a little eerie but really interesting. You must book...More
Not one for the kids this, certainly not youngsters, unless they're really into photography (or death!) but an excellent 90 mins in the West cemetery on the guided tour (which is the only way you're allowed in the west side btw) and at £12 on...More
We were part of a group which had a very good tour of the west part of the cemetery. The guide was excellent in informing us of the most interesting graves of famous individuals including the splendid architecture. This also included the Egyptian Avenue, Lebanon...More

We loved our tour with Gordon ( I think ) he was very knowledgeable and passionate about the cemetery, we learnt a lot and enjoyed his stories. The cemetery is also such a special place, so photogenic and atmospheric.
A visit to the renowned cemetery on a beautiful day in Autumn was very enjoyable, calming and interesting. I must have spent 3 hours wandering in the dappled sunlight shining through the tall trees. It seemed that most of the delapadation of tombstones is due...More

The cemetery is divided into East and West sections. The East section is open to the public, but also offers occasional guided tours. The West section is ONLY open via a guided tour conducted by an official Highgate volunteer. You can book these tours via the website or at the onsite ticket office. We took the West section guided tour and it's definitely worth the time and cost.
