Wealth courses through The King's Road, Chelsea's upmarket artery of West London life packed with shops, eateries and glitzy nightspots. For people-watching at its best and luxury retail therapy that's largely unrivalled, this area cannot be missed. But if this showy street starts to overwhelm or a moment of price tag shock sends you reeling, a quick detour down pretty much any of many King's Road veins will reveal a quieter side of Chelsea. Here the stately Royal Hospital hosts its world-famous flower show, and the Thames rolls along at a lazy pace, with leafy Battersea Park and its Peace Pagoda beckoning from across the river.

Chelsea Flower Show - Big Show Gardens, Big Crowds!
Went to Chelsea Flower Show with my sister, it was our first time. The show gardens were magnificent without doubt and seeing them live instead of on TV was really special. The designers and their teams were so willing to explain their gardens’ designs and you can see why this show is so popular. The smaller gardens and the Pavilion were dreamy too, leaving you with lots of ideas and of course plants and seeds. However, food and drink was quite pricey on top of the entrance ticket price. There was not a lot of seating outside of the food halls and on a hot day sometimes you need to sit for ten minutes or so. It is still worth a visit but, maybe, go on a half-day ticket from 3pm onwards when the crowds have died down and its much easier to get around.

Visit to the Chelsea Flower Show, London
It was a few years ago so we thought it was time for another visit. There is plenty to see and experience. Sometimes very crowded. The exhibition gardens are always nice to see, we bought seeds, as it is the easiest to bring with us. We booked an all-day ticket so we could go in peace and quiet, without stress. Also ordered onions which were sent home.

    Glorious Gardens!!
There is nothing like the Chelsea Flower show! We had planned this 12 day trip to Paris then London ending with this show and heading back across the pond tomorrow and every dollar/every mile was worth it! I could post hundreds of pictures so please use your imagination…. Every flower and green plant you know and don’t know is here… is full bloom, watered to perfection and displayed in magical settings. I joined the RHS last year to gain early admission on the first day of the preview. A short taxi or water taxi ride from our London hotel. Wear sensible walking shoes.

Lovely show - DISAPPOINTING AFTERNOON TEA
Took my mum to see the garden show for her birthday! Booked months in advance, and one of the highlights to complete the whole experience was to enjoy a ‘British’ afternoon tea. Paid £151 upfront - for 2 for a ‘champagne and seafood’ afternoon tea at 3pm. Arrived 15min early for our booking and were told to wait outside while they turned over their lunch tables - eventually admitted at 15h15 Tables were not set, never received full cutlery, or a napkin. At 15h40 I eventually asked if someone could serve us. The menu on paper looked fantastic but the reality was WAY far from that. Half a Bite size savouries and a scone the size of an Oreo biscuit! Bland and NO taste! So disappointed! The show was enjoyable despite the rain!

Not everyone has a chauffeur to drop them at the gardens
RHS seem to have forgotten to order shuttle buses this year. Great confusion at Victoria as to how to get from there to the show and no one to help. Similarly had to get back. Lots of elderly struggling with Sloane Square tube station stairs which is how they were suggested to go. Judging a bit inconsistent. St James garden overrated and old fashioned. Octavia Hill garden fab and under marked. Not sure the forest bathing one was really best in show. Certain sameness in gardens as a consequence of judging criteria which are driving gardens a particular way. Used to be better but show seems now to be decline.

    Jungle of people
It was mobbed, impossible to get a seat to eat anywhere and just too many people. RHS have sold way too many tickets for this event, it was difficult to see the displays. But for those displays we did manage to see, the architecture and sculptures ones were the best.

    Amazing plants and vendors
First time at Chelsea, so excited couldn’t sleep the night before so it was easy to get up early and be in the queue at 7:35 for the 8 am open. The whole line of folk was excitable, like every festival these days there was a bag check. We had taken water with us and that was no problem. We had purchased the booklet with map and had studied both. We went in with a plan and stuck to it. The signage in the grounds were excellent and it was very easy to find items of interest. My main goal of being at Chelsea was to source vendors for plants and seeds that I can’t get locally. For this, the great pavilion was a wonderful resource. The vendors were so very helpful and I spent almost two hours enjoying the stands and making some small purchases of seeds and tubers that I could easily pack for travel. Even more important was seeing the merch and attaining contact details. Even the grounds were planted in a lovely fashion. CFS is busy. However, the only time it really bothered me was when the tv presenters and cameras were around, then people clustered around the cameras blocking the gardens and the paths. The food stalls were actually quite good, we enjoyed both the Vietnamese and the Wings on Swain Way. However, more seating in the grounds would be helpful, we walked over 4.38 miles in the show and I only saw part of one big garden. By the time I left I was too exhausted to care that I hadn’t seen the designer gardens.

    Lots and lots of people
We arrived at the Chelsea Flower Show within half an hour of it opening and it was quite busy. By the time we left almost three hours later it was difficult to move because of the crowd numbers. I'm glad it wasn't a wet day with umbrellas everywhere! The best part for me was the pavilion which was relatively quiet when we went in. Lots of colourful flowers on show. Stunning. My wife liked the gardens which, quite frankly, were almost impossible to get to through the crowds without lots of pushing and shoving. When we did get a place to view them, they seemed a tad underwhelming to me. Not all, mind you. Some were very nice. There weren't as many as I expected and the colour was subdued in many. There are also lots of garden-related retail shops which were quite interesting. And lots of plants for sale which weren't of interest to us as we can't gat them back to Australia. Very popular. Very touristy. Very busy. And not cheap, including the food offerings.

Too many people and not enough seating for people to rest
I have been wishing to attend this flower show for many years and bought a whole day ticket for £90. We went there around 9.30 am and started inside the pavilion. It was a wonderful display of colourful and vibrant display of beautiful flowers. Around 11 am we started moving outside of the pavilion and was shocked to see the huge number of people everywhere! It was impossible to move around easily, the food and cafe places were packed, not enough tables or chairs to consume beverages, and no where there were any benches or chairs for sitting down ! So many elderly people were unable to find a place to rest their legs or sit down to have a meal. Obviously there is a lack of appropriate planning in terms of number of tickets sold the provision of seating. There were also many more shops than actual garden displays. Hope this can be improved for next year.

Miles of walking but nowhere to sit!
The place is pretty big and full of wonderful creative gardening, truly amazing work by designers and gardeners. When you visit you can see why it’s so popular, which is where it becomes more negative. It was so busy on our visit that it became impossible to enjoy the experience. There is very little seating around the site meaning people were perched everywhere, there was nowhere near enough seating around massively overpriced food outlets. Glad we done it but would not do it again.

Went to London with the special purpose of going to this show for a full day. The area was smaller than expected but extremely well organised with plenty of different stands offering a great variety of products. The show areas were well presented and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend going on a weekday as Saturday, the last day of the show, tends to be very crowded. It's a wonderful show to visit if you want to have new ideas to transform your garden as well as being up to date with the more recent garden trends. It takes 3 to 4 hours to see everything in detail. There are several coffee shops in sight but would recommend taking sandwiches beforehand as everything is very pricey. An absolute must see event if you are a garden lover! Had a wonderful memorable day

Made an expensive trip on Saturday to an event which has been on our wish list for many years but so disappointed. The crowds made it feel like leaving a packed football ground in the standing era. It appeared to be totally oversold and was so frustrating we left after 90 mins.

RHS completely oversold this event, crowds shuffling along at peak times, huge queues and nowhere to sit and just enjoy the atmosphere. £89 ticket plus cost of travel up from Devon for the day. No option to escape for a couple of hours, eat at a local restaurant & rejoin or even buy lunch and enjoy a relaxing sit after a 5am start! So easy to provide more seating, folk sitting on the floor in the midday sun whilst patronising messages over the tannoy play to remind visitors to drink more water…. And then queue for the loo!!! Capacity in the shade that could be used for seating is taken up with a private area (spring garden) which is accessible for £500 - £850 a day!! I get that there are luxury goods being sold (statues @£12k, shepherds huts £90k) so you need a certain clientele but please RHS cater for the masses. So much potential for a magical day, if only RHS sorted their unsafe & unpleasant capacity issues out. Really hard to enjoy the stands and show gardens as you can’t get close or when you do it’s from one angle, a glimpse at best. Time for a rethink RHS.

Too crowded terrible queues
Too expensive hard to see exhibits
Having said that the actual exhibits are fantastic but spoiled by too many people trying to see them.
Might be better if you are 6foot 6 inches tall. But sadly I’m 5’7’’.

Second time at Chelsea after first visit several years ago. A very disappointing experience...far too many people were allowed in and the all day one 'shift' system was laughable. Queues everywhere and price of drinks and food extortionate. Felt gardens were on the whole 'samey' and the main pavilion was only half full of displays. The highlight for me was the 'harvest festival' vegetable display. Lack of seating generally. RHS really needs to up its game next year, especially if it's going to charge upwards of £85 for the privilege.

I’ve been attending Chelsea Flower Show annually since 1985, except for the COVID years, so I have realistic expectations. Yes it is very crowded even on members’ days. You have to queue to see the show gardens mid morning to mid afternoons. I’m 5 ft so I have to be patient to get to the front. It is lovely to talk to the exhibitors and Carol Klein is always friendly. On the days I visited either ultra early or in the evening there were scarce crowds and no queuing. Evening visits are particularly special, but I understand that this is difficult for people living outside London. I always wear trainers and comfortable clothes and try to ignore the Chelsea set wafting around in their dresses and heels. I have never experienced severe problems with crowds in the marquee. Yes it is commercial but so are most flower shows, and it is far less commercial than the Hampton Court flower show where you have to dodge wheeled containers of plants. We always bring a picnic as the price of food and drink is high, but actually typical for London. There is usually plenty of seating by the bandstand, but it would be better if more seating was under cover as it typically rains at least once in Chelsea week and hailed this year. I agree that more seating in the marquee is needed, I’m usually tired by this point and need a rest and there are queues to use the ladies, which the RHS need to address. The ladies by the exit is much less crowded. Overall, as long as I can still walk, I’ll tolerate the negatives of Chelsea. It is a plant lover’s paradise and the quality of the gardens is internationally excellent.

After years of being frustrated with the massive crowds at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, we decided to splurge for the Gala evening. Champagne, canapés, and much fewer crowds so a chance to actually see the displays without having to queue. After two event cancellations, RHS decided to put the event together in the fall. We were excited for a different kind of show.

What a disappointment ..poorly thought out and terribly executed and pretty bloody crowded!

One enters the flower show to what seems like a mile long corridor of store concessions. No flowers, no shrubbery, very poor lighting…no indication that this is anything other than a giant garden trade show.

The organisers didn’t give any consideration to the fact that in late September it gets dark at 7:30pm so we could not even see the displays because and there was no additional lighting. You may as well have been walking in Hyde Park at night, but with huge crowds.

There was champagne but then instead of servers circulating with canapés or tables of canapés (except for one open display table which was packed with people), all the canapés were packed and stacked in little pre made boxes which had no description, and no explanation of what they were. Were they gifts? Food? What was inside…impossible to open and eat with a glass of wine in hand. Many of these boxes simply lay untouched and probably went in the bin.

I’ve never felt so fleeced and ripped off for any event, ever.

Shameful, dreadful, gratuitous and wholly disrespectful to anyone who shelled out £500 for a charity event in darkness.

Surprised by previous comments about crowds and COVID risk. What did they expect? The event is mostly outside so no worries. Like any theatre, concert hall, football stadium or indeed any venue where you are a captive audience you will pay premium prices for all purchases. Take a picnic, there are plenty of places to sit down, especially at the bandstand. Thought the Pavilion was below par this year, the timing didn’t suit a lot of exhibitors I’m sure. Show gardens, balcony gardens, and others were world class as usual.

Visited the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Saturday September 2021 - the place was awful. You could hardly walk 5 steps without someone walking into you, most people would shuffle along as you couldn't walk it was so busy. It reminded me of Winter Wonderland at the peak before covid. The facilities were awful and completely insufficient for the amount of people there, saw some poor lady in flip flops stand in something that no one should experience. A small Pimms is £8.50 and comes in a taster size cup that is similar to the coffee cups at Kwik Fit while for your tyres being changed. People were eating on the pavement because there was no where to sit. The gardens were no better than my back garden and left me completely unimpressed. The place is full of stalls just wanting to sell stuff life like black bushe market at xmas, yet you will end up paying £750 for a small plant. The best part of the show was leaving it, felt all the TV promotions over the years and the royal family walking around saying how lovely it was a complete lie. I will say the shops in around the area down the Kings Road were beautiful and really did put a smile on my face. My advice is don't waste £87.50 on a ticket - felt robbed.

Totally agree with a lot of other comments. Basically it’s a posh garden centre which they charge an eye watering £95 a ticket for! BBC coverage nothing like the reality. Saw the best in show being given out, you had no idea what was being said/was going on until the bbc producer got everybody clapping and cheering, all fake.
Sales of greenhouses, chairs, pods, summer houses massively overshadow the small show gardens. Hardly anywhere to sit, disgusting overflowing bins, despite paying £95 you have to buy a map. I was expecting a classy day like Wimbledon……. Very disappointing
Best advice, walk around the nearby streets as those exhibits are fabulous.
