Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our experience at Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre was simply sublime. The staff's warm welcome added to the beauty of the day. Kayaking on Lake Windermere was an incredibly serene experience, made even better by the excellent quality of their kayaks. And to top it off, I couldn't resist taking a refreshing swim in the lake. 100% would go here again!!

Hired paddle boards from here today, friendly staff & equipment in great condition. Perfect spot to paddle board from, we could go anywhere on the lake within the time limit. Parking free when you enter your reg on their station at the hire counter. Lovely hot shower after & clean changing rooms. Would use again.

The activity centre was great. The follow up service shocking l. We went kayaking with another family and were told that parking was free. We handed over details of our car with the booking which was made in person. We e have subsequently received a fine from the car park company horizon totalling £78 almost the cost of the Kayak session.

In order to appeal the fine I spoke a a gentleman I kept a note of his name ..he said that the car reg may have been put in the system incorrectly .. and it was one of those things!!! I also emailed three times asking simply that the team supply me with details of my original booking in order that I may appeal the fine. This am sure would take a matter of minutes to verify .. I await anxiously for a reply to my email.

35 GBP to launch your own paddle board.

We had booked the rental of 2 kayaks and 2 paddle boards. Each costing 35 GBP for two hours. Plus rental of wetsuits.

However, in addition we were charged a “launch fee” 35 GBP for bringing our own paddle board. Not certain why that was necessary as we pumped up our own board and carried it to the water ourselves.

An absolute rip-off. We will not return.

Refused to offer refund regardless of the unsafe conditions, poor visibility and lack of substantial equipment for heavier folks.

Staff were extremely rude over the phone and after reading other reviews on here we recommend to avoid at all costs.

We were staying at the Low Wood Bay hotel and they offered discount for guests booking to use the facilities. We hired a small motor boat on one day and the next we did the paddle boarding which was my first time and I was a little nervous. The lady put me at ease and told me what to do and off I went, it was amazing and I didn’t fall in which was a bonus. I would love to do this for longer as we were checking out on that day.

We booked a 2 hour paddle board session and also a 4 hour motor boat. On the day of our activities it was raining cats and dogs so we phoned and managed to push everything back 1 day when the weather was better.

Staff really friendly, plenty of equipment and all in good condition.

Plenty of parking too!

They have a parking system that charges as soon as you drive on property even if you're not staying. We've recently bought a boat nearby but are also interested in trying out some other watersports and activities as a family. We arrived here to get some information. The family stayed in the car whilst I went in for a brochure and also got an ice cream each for my 3 kids. Couple of weeks later we received a parking fine. This is somewhere we will never go again.

My partner and I took family members paddling so gave them my two person kayak for the day and I hired a single sit on top. Now I accept that it does say it on their website but we only noticed there was a launch fee when we were already on our way to Windermere. Hire cost for a single kayak is £40 for four hours (pretty standard) but to launch your own, it’s £35 per kayak/paddle board and they were very strict that we had to be off the water no later than 5pm. As we had both a kayak and a paddle board to launch, that was an extra £70 for a matter of seconds at the waters edge.

We asked if there was anywhere nearby with free launch and were told there’s a car park a couple of miles away but that we might not get parked. As we still needed the hired kayak we didn’t want to take the gamble so paid the extra. It was only after five minutes of paddling we came across Brockhole Pier which has free launch and a Carpark but they failed to mention that of course. I’m not sure how £70 to launch a kayak and a paddle board can be justified.

The kayak we hired had no seat or back rest so after a couple of hours, I had to take it back early as it was far too painful. For some reason, it also had a cut out at the rear which caused it to take on a lot of water. The kayak did have scupper holes but it still meant I was sat in 6 inches of water for the duration. That coupled with the lack of back rest and feeling totally ripped off made it an unpleasant experience.

Obviously I wouldn’t return.
