Looking for a fantastic day out? This family-owned attraction is small enough to provide a friendly and personal service, with enough to keep visitors happy all day. What sets Totnes Rare Breeds apart is the opportunity to be within hugging range of all the animals. Most enclosures can be entered for close-up stroking, patting and cuddling. The Garden Café (outside the farm) offers made-to order dishes at reasonable prices, from indulgent snacks to tasty meals.

A nice little farm with a range of goats, pigs, squirrels, owls, etc. The children enjoyed petting the guinea pigs and there is a nice little cafe next to the steam train railway.

We are regular visitors to the rare breeds farm and it is typically a firm favourite with our boys, 3 and 6. On this occasion however, perhaps due to being high season or the fact that we arrived over lunchtime, it was not as magical...More

Set off for a 40 minute drive to rare breeds with 2 excited kids in tow. After nearly 3 hours driving round overgrown lanes and a dead end we decided to give up and go for a picnic on the moors instead.

We took our grandson with us and he lived it. We spent about 2 hours here which is probably about the max unless your picnicking. He sat with a guinea pig on his lap for 20 mins. No loo could be an issue for some...More

Really lovely day out when combined with the steam railway. Perfect for my children ( 5 and 1). Only reason I rated down one star is the lack of toilet facilities onsite, you have to go all the way back to the station which is...More

Travelled by train from Buckfastleigh with 2 under 5's. The journey was just long enough to stop them getting bored. The rare breeds farm was a delight for them with enough to keep them amused and interested for an hour or so and then back...More

Lots of different animals ranging from all sorts of birds to goats and sheep. Good things for the children to see and do and a great stopover if you are going in on the steam train. The cafe is a bit limited but lovely day...More

Although really intended for children, we grown ups really enjoyed our visit. We had travelled down on the train from Buckfastleigh and had entry to the farm included, because we bought the package ticket. This little attraction is well set up. Hopefully you will get...More

Visited here as part of a trip on the steam railway. The farm is only small but it kept us busy for a few hours. You can go in the enclosures with most of the animals and can purchase food at the gate for them....More

We purchased the combined otters, butterflies and rare breeds South Devon train ticket, which provides a fair amount of entertainment for a day. We enjoyed the same package 4 years ago and not a lot had changed at Totnes Rare Breeds. It is a fairly...More

Thank you so much for your visit and for taking the time to write such an in depth review. We do what we can to change things each year (re-vamp enclosure, new breeds when we are able) but sadly we are limited for space, hence...More

Hello, we are purely animal based and so do not have a play park, so while we hope your child will love the animals, it may be a bit easier to persuade them to leave :) We hope to see you soon.
