About
Morrab Gardens is a public park, with luxuriant sub-tropical planting established over many years, in the centre of Penzance. The quality of a public space gives a strong impression of an area. It is part of what gives a town its identity, and local residents a sense of civic pride. By the late nineteenth century, Penzance had become a popular seaside resort and required a park for visitors’ recreation. To this end, Penzance Corporation acquired Morrab House, along with its grounds, in 1888 for £3,120. The villa was leased by Penzance Private Library and the gardens were designed and set out to the scheme of paths and borders which can be seen to this day. When the Gardens were established, in the 1880s, unlike today there were no nurseries selling exotic plants, the original planting was the result of gifts from local estates.

I arguably saw these gardens at or near their worst in early March.
Even then still beautiful, and I hope to visit again later in the year

Well maintained gardens, looked after by the local authority, but this by no means limits what makes up this remarkable park. It seems to have something for everyone, including a band stand, and a reserved green section for young school age children. There are some exceptional floral borders, and mature trees tat thrive in this semi mediterranean climate. A great place to relax in some special gardens

Nice reprieve from city noise and the traffic. It is only a few minutes walk from the quay and not far from the Jubilee Pool.

A very nice garden situated near to the lovely library. The garden is a place for relax, looking at flowers and plants, strolling around or sitting on a bench.

Having visited Penzance several times in the past we were pleasantly surprised to find the gardens. Not sure how we'd missed them in the past. Well cared for and a peaceful place to sit to while away some time.Plenty of seats.

Morrab Gardens are a beautiful tranquil haven in the middle of Penzance. We visited in mid April 2022 and were as they ungoldastonished to see the incredible colours of the flower beds surrounded by the semi tropical trees.

Families with young children were enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of the environment.

Although we live in Lancashire, we are regular visitors to the town and are now owners of a static caravan 25 mins drive away but had never visited the gardens before.

We will definitely be visiting again and look forward to see the changing seasons unfold.
