Lots and lots of small independent shops, most are very different to other's along the rows, great to slowly wander around, venturing along the top one's then coming down to the lower one's. Chester is great for shopping. We love to visit here, there seemed...More

We found the rows very dirty and smelly after visiting the Christmas market, lots of 'homeless' people sitting around begging and obviously using upstairs along the rows as a toilet.it was only around 5 pm but dark,me and my husband felt very vulnerable.

The iconic feature of Chester is the Rows- aesthetically attractive, architecturally unique, and for shoppers providing a weather proof facility as well as a promenade for anyone. At their best they are superb. However as others have noted a significant number of retail outlets are...More

We were in Chester for a wedding and decided to explore both the walls and the rows during the morning. There was a festival on whilst we were there with live music acts in the high streets, art displays and deckchairs around the shops to...More

The architecture is amazing however it was sad to see a number of empty shops. Perhaps the local council could better support this rather unique shopping area.

It's lovely to see the Rows. Slightly sad to realise that even in places like Chester the blight of the high street has started and some places are empty. Lots of walking and steps to navigate so be aware if you are not too mobile.

Surprising to see such great architecture and the use of the buildings for shops, offices, hairdressers etc etc and still maintaining originality. Comfortable shoes are a must as some of the steps are very steep, although there are handrails provided.

Chester has done well to preserve these unique shopping streets, a nice mix of high street chains and independent shops

Hi Sarah, First of all, I apologise for not responding sooner; I have been away for a few days. It is my understanding that the rows are open between 10.30 and 17.00 on Sundays although some say they open at 11.00. Then on... More
