You do not see a black sandy beach every day. It really is a gorgeous place to go to. The roads there ain’t the best, but it’s worth a drive. There are toilets and cafes around the area.

We drove here on a small country road. Lovely big beach, sheltered from the wind, on a nice day it would be fantastic.

This was the first place I visited in New Zealand and it was absolutely beautiful. We walked down to the beach and enjoyed the view. The rock/volcanic formation are very interesting. Be sure to pick up the sand - it is so lightweight and beautiful...More

The beach was great, the magnetic sand and the little conical shells. The rock itself was so majestic and and easy climb.
