This is a very beautiful beach. Although it is relatively close to Auckland, it is further than what's mentioned in the guides online. The road has some narrow sharp turns and it isn't possible to drive fast. Moreover, the beach is at the end of...More

A good drive to see a pretty beach and a nice walk up to Lion's Head to overlook the entire beach. Cold water but great to watch the surfers but is known to have dangerous rip-tides so we were warned not to swim here.

It was a fantastic place to be visited in sunset. Its been refreshing beach to visit on sunset and windy weather. Fine black sand with cold and tough waves....!! Cold breeze was awesome on little warm weather.

No matter where I travel, this beach has the fondest memories for me. I have been coming here for over 50 years, even before the road was sealed. The surf, the walks in the bush, and the 1960s feel are still there. It’s magic.
