Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I walked 2 km from our Heritage Guest House to see this old port.
The people we passed said "Bula" or "Good Morning" walking the quiet inner lanes or along the coastal road. The Old Town Hall, Men's Club ruins, Schools, churches, Royal Hotel, war memorials and guest houses were noted along with the Fire Station and the new town hall under construction.
We saw and visited the old clapboard businesses(bank, clothing, fabric, hardware and grocery stores walking to and from the port's ferry.
This quaint village is walled in by the circular mountains and the sea.

Heritage Guest House is right in the heart of Levuka. Easy walk to all the world heritage sites. So beautiful. I love going to Levuka Baths and Baba also. Our guide was so friendly and even took us to her home for tea.

This old colonial port town is filled with history and historic architecture. The main Beach Street is like a wild Wild West set in the South Pacific. The place will intrigue historians, archaeologists, architects and heritage enthusiasts for sure. We didn’t have enough time but there are heaps of hikes, walks, waterfalls and villages to visit. Locals are super friendly and will say bula to you. It’s safe to walk around day and night. It is idyllic and peaceful and relaxing for anyone who is looking for a break from a hectic life. The community spirit is amazing and so is the natural beauty.

The town or the island is not on the popular tourist track as it doesn’t have the kind of resorts that main island has but it’s a perfect place to see real Fiji outside the resorts.

Highly recommend spending at 2-4 days. Taxis on the island are so cheap you can take them to go around everywhere.

Levuka will give you a good idea of how the first European colonists made themselves comfortable in the South Pacific. It'd look like the setting of a Western movie if it wasn't for the lovely Fijian women selling their produce on the market. We had fun exploring the small town museum and discovering the many 'firsts' Levuka proudly owns (first bank, first school, first post office etc). While there isn't much to do except wandering up and down the street, looking at old buildings, watching people and having a cold drink or ice-cream, a visit to Levuka is a pleasant enough way of spending a couple of hours on Ovalau.

This was a disappointing experience. May have been a great little town in it's heyday 150 years ago. It is now a derelict and very sad place. A lot of work needs to be done to make it a tourist attraction and justify it's inclusion as a world heritage listing site.

We have just arrived back in New Zealand after spending about two weeks in Levuka on Ovalau Island.
For anyone interested in visiting the former capital and World Heritage town, Venu Shipping is a much more passenger-friendly bus/ferry service - on the good ship, the St Mary leaving on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11am and arriving in Levuka Port at 3.30pm.
It leaves the Suva Bus Stop and tickets can be bought from the St Mary kiosk in the car park. The return journey leaves Levuka on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.15am, arriving in Suva at midday. Tickets cost FJD $25 per person.
By comparison, the Patterson Bus/Ferry has a daily service and gets into Levuka via Buresala (the opposite side of the island) at dusk. The bus leaves at 4.30 am from Levuka and gets in to Suva at 8.30am. This is a daily service, also leaving and returning to the Suva Bus Stop.

A great place to spend at least 3 days if you are interested in the history of the South Pacific. People are friendly and the place is not touristy. We spent a day exploring the town, the second day we went on Epi's tour and would have liked a third day to take a trip around the whole island. We felt safe the whole time and expect to visit again.

Good place to stock up if you've arrived by yacht. Some things are surprisingly cheap, and some expensive - don't except European food here until you pay top dollar. Bread is very, very fresh. Can buy alcohol here too.

We took the transport provided by Patterson. The package is bus from Suva center, ferry to island Levuka and bus to Levuka Town center.
I've booked the package for six adults and three children on their website and the email answered that has booked, just need to get the tickets. We turned up on the date and were told that the bus has already full. We can either go on the next day or arrange our own transport to the wharf.
The historic port is worth visiting. Market on every Saturday morning. One family set up one table, selling their own products from vegetable, casawa, taro to banana, coconut and papaya. One family is selling sea food for they have a boat to fish in the ocean.

The town itself very scenic as the main road hugs the coastline. Most of the buildings are historic and have been restored really well. There are very few tourist facilities a few restaurants, no bars or tat shops. Cyclone Winston caused a lot of damage in 2016 and you can still see a few destroyed houses. The town is home to the most scenic rugby pitch in the world. The relaxed vibe made this the highlight for us.
