About
Spend a fun family day at New Zealand's only indoor snow resort. Snowplanet offers skiing, snowboarding, tubing and tobogganing all in one place, and all year round whatever the weather. Located 30 minutes north of Auckland's central city, the indoor resort is the perfect place for snow lovers. A 200-metre slope is accessible to adults and children, while the Terrain Park offers more of a challenge with jumps and rails for visitors to practice tricks. For visitors who don’t want to ski or snowboard and simply want to have fun, there’s an alpine-village themed Winter Wonderland. Decorated with snow-capped trees, take a thrill ride down the two tubing tracks or slide down in a toboggan. There’s lots of fun games to play in the snow and photo opportunities to take home family memories. Visitors can bring their own clothes and equipment, or can rent all the equipment, gloves, and warm clothing they need online or at the front desk in the resort.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Total waste of time and money.
Everything is ridiculously expensive, $40 entry, $28 for jacket and pants, extra $9 for gloves and if you’re skiing, $47 to hire gear till you need ski poles and it’s an additional $2.

If you want the chair lift you have to pay $6 for a card to use, and the lines are huge. Waited in line for one only to be told to use the other one for your first time. So stood in like for 10 minutes to be told I need to wait in another line. Could have at least been signage to tell you you have to use a specific lift for your first time.

Loads of experienced skiers with no dedicated areas which makes it really difficult and dangerous for beginners to learn how to use everything.

To top it all off the staff here are extremely rude. Not at all interested in helping or offering any advice. Not even a 10 second speech on how to do your boots up. If you want this information - you need to pay for a lesson.

People on the counter aren’t interested in serving people, couldn’t even get a smile from the staff on the front counter.

Ordered a bowl of wedges for $16 and they were revolting. Tasted as though they were cooked in water.

Overall a severely disappointing experience for the amount of money it took. No point in coming here unless you’re an experienced skiier with their own gear.

A group of 28 of us were able to book the Chalet for a Mid Winter Christmas and it was fabulous. The staff had gone to so much trouble with the decor and table layout and we had the use of the verandah with the buffet meal set up on the lower level. Nigel was our Chef extraordinaire, Dawn our hard working ever attentive Hostess and Justine, our first point of contact through whom we had organised this group function. The food was outstanding. There aren't many places these days where you can find a buffet meal and a 'private' space like the Chalet. Here at 7 Summits, they have found the secret formula. Our thanks to the whole team. We booked online for the Winter wonderland area for four, for an hour. It included boot and helmet hire. It was quite a fun time going through the area and going down the slide on a toboggan or tube. The area covered about a quarter of the lower area of the snow area.
The snow was a bit icy but it would be a nice place to learn, both snowboard or ski. You do need a refundable card to be able to access the lifts to get to the top of the area. You can hire all the gear you need there but you are also able to bring in your own gear. There is plenty of parking about, just keep an eye out for the Snoplanet sign once you get off the motorway for Silverdale.
It would be good to book online so that you aren't disappointed when you get there.

The gear rental area was a bit crazy without enough staff and the rental gear it’s self was worn out and needed updating. Once into the main area there was plenty of space on the slope and the two t bars made for short wait times. Overall good fun for the whole family

Not like the mountain but also cheaper and easier than going to the mountain.
Double glove because it gets cold (maybe because there isn't sun) but you won't need goggles or sunnies.
My biggest bug-bear are the frequent power cuts. We've been a few times and they seem overly frequent. Why?
Overall, it's awesome to have this facility on our doorstep for learning and trying out new gear but a few tweaks (specifically to the delivery of power to lift operation) would make for a much better experience

Our family visit to Snowplanet was significantly marred by an unfortunate incident involving my six-year-old son in the lift queue, where he was loudly and publicly scolded by a coach for tapping his ski poles against the platter lift—a common behaviour of young children new to skiing.

The coach’s approach was not only harsh but also dismissive, especially when we tried to discuss the matter. Despite our attempts to resolve the situation amicably on-site, our concerns were ignored, exacerbating my son’s distress and leaving him visibly shaken.

Following this, we escalated the issue to the management at Snowplanet. One of the directors responded to our complaint. While the director engaged with us and discussed the incident, the response we received was not what we had hoped. The management upheld the coach’s actions and did not offer any reconciliation or goodwill gestures, which would have been crucial in restoring our trust and comfort in their commitment to a child-friendly environment.

This handling of our complaint was disheartening as it contradicts the nurturing and positive atmosphere one would expect at a family-oriented sports facility. Given this experience, and the management’s firm stance which provided little to no support, I feel compelled to share this review to inform other families considering a visit to Snowplanet. While the venue offers great potential for family fun and learning, our experience underscores a need for improved staff training and a more sensitive management approach towards young learners and their families.

I hope this feedback will prompt Snowplanet to make necessary improvements, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for all visitors. We remain open to seeing how Snowplanet addresses these issues in the future, but for now, our experience serves as a cautionary tale.

Hi Leanne Sorry to hear you didn't think it was good value. Snow tubing for an adult and a child is a total of $53 so I guess you hired some other gear and clothing etc. Our goal is for everyone to have an awesome time, so sorry we couldn't fulfill that for you. Tony CEO

We booked a birthday party for my 10year old at snow planet. First visit for us. Looking at the birthday party Cave room on internet, we decided that we will hire that together with kids meal (5 kids). The room looked ok but nothing with a woh! factor. Kids meal consisted of chicken nuggets and fish and chips. Frozen nuggets and chicken were only cooked outside and the inside was still uncooked and smelly. None of the kids ate their meal and when complaint to staff member, she said we always cook this way and no has complaint instead of looking into the problem. Hope she had tasted it before even answering.

We spent about $500.00 and more than half the money was down the drain. We had to buy food for the kids from else where after leaving.

Hope the frozen food is defrosted before cooking or learn from other takeaways how to cook nuggets. Reminder to the staff : 10 year old kids know how they like their food to be-cooked

We've been to Snowplanet countless times. My family loves it. Last year I fell and broke my tailbone. It was excruciating and two staff members came to my aid. I told them it was broken and they just told me to lay there until I was ready to move. They left me there to find my own way down. I was crying uncontrollably so there was no doubt that I was in pain. I was really hoping for better first aid in case of an emergency.

We were really looking forward to a trip to snow planet but then realised it was going to cost us $400 for a family of 4 for 2hrs (for equipment and clothes) and no ways we were going to pay that! Better off waiting to go to the real snow!
It wouldn't be quite as much if you had your own winter clothes, but coming from a hot place, we didn't. They should really consider lowering the rental of clothes!
