Beautiful black sandy beach where scenes from the 1993 film The Piano were filmed. The beach itself is about a ten minute walk from the carpark. The sea when we were there was quite rough and it was also very windy. But we still had...More

a beautiful beach despite quite a walk from the carpark area to it. The sand was very fine and black colour. The scenery is stunning!

We decided to take the hour drive from Auckland out to the falls and beach for a day trip. The drive is beautiful, although the last couple of kms can be a little worrying as it's a one lane road. However it is definitely worth...More

The black sand here is incredible - never seen anything like it before! The beach is enormous and seemingly endless. We had a lovely long walk here even though it was raining. The drive down is just as interesting. You turn off the main road...More

This beach and the surroundings are fantastic! Great place to spend time, there were hardly any people around and very peaceful. The walk to the nearby falls was also beautiful. I really recommend to check this place!
