Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have done quite a bit of international travel Over the years and this tour with Mondumo Tours was the best tour I have ever been on. Colin, the owner and guide of the 2-week New Zealand tour, was knowledgeable, thoughtful and a lot of fun. We toured the north and south islands and every stop, accommodation, as well as the food, was perfect. I had no complaints, only praise for this tour. If it weren’t such a long flight, I would go again in a heartbeat.

In my 25 years of travel I've been on about 10 tours and all other travel was independent. Of the 10 tours, 4 have been small group tours which fits my travel needs perfectly. Of all tours I've been on, this tour was the absolute best. I was impressed by the clientele this tour attracted. They were all experienced travelers who were willing to participate, collaborate, and cooperate with their fellow tour members. The tour leader made everything seem seamless. There was never a time he showed stress or concern which made the tour members feel comfortable and confident they were being tended to. Thanks Colin! I do wish you went to more places I plan to visit, I would sign up for them all.

Fabulous! Loved exploring this magical country with Colin! His top-level expertise, his love of myriad cultures, story, and landscape, and his spirit of fun, adventure and care brought everything to our experience of Aotearoa New Zealand! So did his marvelous singing, his poetry recitations, his stories and his humor! He balanced all of that with quiet at the right times for rest and awe, and his practical savvy and attentiveness meant we explored worry-free!

My husband and I took a tour of New Zealand with Mondumo in March 2019. We had a blast! Our tour guide, company owner Colin Mairs, is an excellent tour guide and super nice guy. He somehow manages to be very laid back and relaxed while making sure that everything goes smoothly. We saw a wide variety of sights during the two week tour, and everything was perfectly coordinated. The local guides and bus drivers that Colin engaged were superb. Colin, himself, provides lots of local knowledge in a very enjoyable and humorous style.
Most of the people on our tour had traveled with Colin before (he also does tours for Rick Steves), which says a lot. My husband and I would love to tour with Colin again!

It is with great pleasure that I highly recommend Mondumo New Zealand Tours.
If you have never been to New Zealand, this is a great opportunity to see the sights in a short time span. Colin is very personable, organized and extremely helpful to the tour participants. We had heard that New Zealand is a beautiful country and now my husband and I can testify that it is.

The key to a great small-group tour is the guide, and Colin Mairs is a very good guide. You get a concise, thorough tour of incredible New Zealand led by a man who knows how to have a great time while dealing with all kinds of people. His tour takes you to the highlights and some off the beaten path sights in this incredible country. New Zealand is a bucket-list place (was for me!) and now after this tour I could see going back over and over. We actually met the guide, Colin, when he led our small-group tour of Scotland. When he said he was going to also be leading tours of New Zealand -- we were IN. Knowing this guide and his company would be leading the tour sealed the deal for us, and we didn't regret our decision.

This was my first experience with a tour and I had an absolutely amazing time!
Colin - EXCELLENT tour guide, really made sure everyone felt taken care of and had a good time, while also ensuring we remained on schedule. I would take another tour with him in a heartbeat. He is obviously very interested in the people, history and beauty of NZ.
Itinerary - This was my main reason for selecting the tour, there was good variety, HOBBITON, wine (and whisky) drinking, ferry and train rides, bus time to relax, museum tours, walking tours, nature walks, and free time....everything you could want. The pace was not breakneck and we had plenty of time to enjoy ourselves at breakfast and at each location.
Tour Mates - Wonderful people who loved traveling, were very friendly and many had taken trips with Colin previously. Our tour was 20 people which was a good size, not too small or large.
Food - Colin selected very good restaurants throughout the trip for our group meals and every hotel offered breakfast. When we were on our own he offered suggestions and no one had any issues finding a good meal.
Packing - Definitely glad I followed his instructions to just have a carry on and small backpack - it made it a lot easier to switch hotels. Some of the hotels had washers/dryers, Colin arranged optional laundry half way through, and many of the hotels towards the end of the trip had heated towel racks which helped with any laundry.
Bus - Drivers were very good on both the North and South Islands, buses were comfortable and Colin provided wonderful commentary (and songs!). Plenty of (clean) bathroom stops many with cafes - longest stretch was 2 hours between stops.
Hotels - Great locations, comfortable beds, clean, very quiet, good toiletry selection. Some hotels were absolutely stunning and others were more utilitarian.

I think that a trip from the US to New Zealand is a big commitment and it makes sense to maximize your time there. This Mondumo tour packed a lot into 2 weeks and provided an opportunity to see charming, breath-taking, and out-of-the way sites, as well as hitting the highlights of New Zealand cities.  I especially liked that we were able to experience the Maori culture.  I want to add that Colin Mairs is an exceptional guide/organizer and a very likable person. He was a big help to the tour members as we struggled with the effects of the COVID19 pandemic on our post-tour plans.Â
