Mao Trek was the best decision we made to see this beautiful country. We travelled north from Auckland to Kerikeri and the ferry from Wellington to Picton then through the south island to Queenstown. Our driver Andrew, was amazing. He is funny, patient, shared stories and educated us about New Zealand, its history and up to the present. We never saw any litter or graffiti. Every day was magical as we viewed the beautiful countryside looking at sheep, cattle, red deer grazing on the mountains. So many highlights, eating at Homesteads, sunset kayaking, Cruise through Milford Sound and then a flight over the fiords to Queenstown. We are so glad that we didn't have to drive on the opposite side of the road and the "roundabouts". Highly recommended to see this beautiful country.

Our family of 4 did the 12 Day Kiwi Tour over Christmas with 6 other travelers and our intrepid guide Dianne Dobbs. It was a vacation we will never forget. From our first queries to the Moatrek office last year to our hugs goodbye on the last day, our experience has been nothing short of the perfect holiday. We would not change one thing about the itinerary, the varied activities from active to otherworldly to jaw droppingly beautiful, the hotels, the special lunches, the serendipitous side tours, even the many rest stop cafes were each a pleasure in their own ways. Our guide Di was wonderful - knowledgeable and passionate about her country, with the ability to turn strangers into a family in a matter of hours, quick thinking and adaptable when she needed to be, and in control of every situation. Despite NZ being 21 hours away, I think the 4 of us can envision coming back again.

We have just completed the Moa Tour ‘Southern Beauty’, it was a stunning trip. It was scenic heaven and a excellent experience. It was made even more enjoyable by our guide Andrew. His knowledge, stories and obvious love for our magnificent country shone through in spades. Being aware of the weather changes he was able and very willing to slightly change the tour always to our advantage. Especially when the flight out of Milford Sound was unlikely to happen he changed us to an hours scenic flight over the Southern Alps from Queenstown, absolutely brilliant. This also made the Milford Sound journey extra special; due to the wet day we saw the most amazing waterfalls The rugged West Coast was awe inspiring. Nothing was too difficult or small for Andrew to make our tour magical; he had us all talking and laughing. The tour is a 5 star+, the other passengers were are great bunch of people and we all thoroughly enjoyed the journey and having Andrew as our tour guide was a huge bonus. It was gob smacking stunning. We will definitely travel with Andrew again

For mature travellers planning a bus tour to South Island, I can highly recommend Moa Tours who are very well organized and take care of you from the moment you leave home. "Southern Beauty" appealed to me as I wanted to see Milford Sound one more time having last been there 25 years ago. The scenic flight from the Sound over the Alps to Queenstown was definitely the highlight for me! What really made this trip so interesting was our wonderful knowledgeable guide Tim, who was also a very good driver, attentive and caring of his passengers and always punctual. He even made a special stop for me in order to take photos of lupins which lined the road.

Our 4 day, 3night tour of the Bay of Islands was booked through Audley Travel. I advised Audley I suffer from motion sickness which is lessened by sitting in the front seat of the vehicle. MoaTrek said they would try to accommodate me but with no guarantees which I understood. We arrived ar the pretour meeting Jan 25, 2020 at the Grand Mercure to meet our guide, Dianne. She flatly refused any type of consideration of my motion sickness and stated her policy was seat rotation of all guests. We would not have booked this tour if this is the type of consideration given and advised Dianne accordingly of our cancellation.
We have traveled with many tour companies around the world and have never been treated this way. We asked for a refund of the tour and were denied. We will never recommend MoaTrek to anyone and especially do not travel with guide Dianne.

Thank you for your feedback. Your travel agent did advise MoaTrek before the tour of your motion sickness. We advised your agent that in regards to motion sickness the fronts seats are not necessarily the best and that it is usually more comfortable over the rear wheels. MoaTrek encourages seat rotation so it is fair on all of our travellers and for the same reason we never guarantee front seats. It is unfortunate you made the decision to not travel with us. We will obtain a written report from the guide regarding this incident and be in touch with your travel agent. We are sorry you did not travel on our tour but hope you did enjoy your time in New Zealand.

We have just returned from a wonderful 17day Kaka trip with Moatrek to New Zealand. Our guide, Andrew, was outstanding and provided the background and context to our tour that meant we gained far more from our holiday than we would have done if we had decided to self guide. The bus was comfortable and ensured access to smaller places, car parks, roads. The variety of experiences, from wine tastings to hosted lunches with Kiwis, were excellent for getting to know our fellow travellers and the society and culture of NZ. The itinerary was well judged and gave us access to the wonderful landscape, wilderness and natural history of the country. The optional activities provided a wide range of adventures that meant there was something for everyone.

This was so much better than expected! We had a wonderful guide (Di) who was caring, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. Highlights of our tour were lunch at a private home, a culinary tour of Wellington, zipline canopy tour in Rotorua, whale watch (orcas, sperm whales, a seal eating an octupus, penguin, and albatrosses) and some amazing hikes. The weather had closed down the road to Milford Sound, so the company hired three planes and flew us there and back - superb!

We had decided on New Zealand, but we weren’t sure how we wanted to see it. We are not normally people who go on tours so we were a bit hesitant to take a guided tour. However, we were both busy and just didn’t have the time to plan our own trip. I’m so glad that it worked out that way! MoaTrek made everything so easy. We just had to book our tour and follow some basic instructions (like get a visa, travel insurance, and a flight). The rest was done for us. As for the tour itself, it was spectacular! (We did the 16 day Kakariki tour.) Every place we went was special in its own way, but the day we spent at Milford Sound was exceptional (definitely make that part of your trip)! Matt, our guide, was such a superstar. He is faster and more accurate than a Google search when it comes to New Zealand and its history. He also managed to create a very inclusive environment (not an easy task with a bunch of strangers from different parts of the world) and we all had a wonderful time together. New Zealand is a special place with beautiful scenery and an interesting history. I have already told friends that visiting NZ is a must and when they do, they should book a tour with MoaTrek.

Kia Ora Teri and thanks for taking the time to write this review. We have quite a few "first time" tour travellers and they quickly understand why it's such a good option for New Zealand. Matt just loves sharing everything he knows, it's like being on the National Geographic channel, travelling with him. We hope to see you (and your friends) back here again one day soon. Ka kite anō.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Dermot Hall our local Tour Guide was very knowledgeable and shared many stories, very entertaining. Weather was fantastic, Milford Sound performed 100%, rain before we arrived and then the sun appeared and the waterfalls were fantastic. Great flight back to Queenstown. Thoroughly recommend Moa Tours to explore our wonderful country and see new parts not already explored or known

My husband and I have just completed our Southern Beauty tour with Moa Tours. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We have never been to that part of NZ before nor have we ever toured with Moa previous. Our guide/driver Tim was outstanding. Great depth of knowledge, his driving was excellent and courteous to other road users, he was faced with a couple of difficulties which he handled perfectly and was so kind and helpful with the older passengers. Tim has a wonderful sense of humour and was great fun to be with. The accommodation was very good and we were very well fed. I would thoroughly recommend Moa Tours and hope you are lucky enough to have Tim as your guide :-)
