Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Motorent.NZ are both professionals AND enthusiasts and it shows. They have the largest network in New Zealand for motorcycle rentals (and it helps since the trek between anywhere in New Zealand is quite a hike; also, you need to schedule time to do both the North and South islands so you need a company that has addresses on both). They also understand that you might be coming from afar with extra luggage and they will assist you.

WILL return to New Zealand and WILL do business again with them.

Take notice: Renting motorcycles in a faraway place is never a cheap thing. You need to get your plan in order, a long time prior, to ride there and the distances make it so that you have to respect the motorcycle. Any deviation from that will bite you right back (it's not as crazy as Australia, but it's not the Greater Montreal Area neither). Thankfully, Motorent knows New Zealand and are at the ready to help out!

Hiring a bike was easy and simple. There were four of us and we got the bikes and gear quickly and were on our way in no time. The crew were helpful with advice. The bikes were in immaculate condition and the gear we hired was first class. We got 3 Hondas and a BMW. No problems.Returning was just as easy. We had picked up and returned to Auckland which may have made a difference. In terms of efficiency, service, condition of bikes and gear, they receive nothing but praise. Would we hire from them again? sure would

Great to deal with. Perfect combination of professional and personal. Everything was as good as expected or better. Only thing I would do differently is book twice as much time to enjoy it even more.

I rented a Honda 500x for most of the month of December, for touring around the South Island. Reservation was easy to make and easy to confirm. Pickup was also quite easy and despite it being a slow time with only part-time staffing they were able to accommodate my need for a change of pickup time. I was renting for pickup and return in Christchurch, collecting from their warehouse there.

I rented the bike with no other arrangements as I tend to like to travel with few plans, following the weather, the advice of others I meet along the way and my own whims. Self-guided (GPS) tours with pre-arranged bookings along the way were available if I wanted them. Personally I'm happy not having reservations and bringing a tent with some camping gear instead.

Pickup was very easy. Arrived in the morning, filled the paperwork and packed my stuff. I left my duffel-bag with a handful of items in their warehouse for safekeeping. They provided me with the usual toolkit and a small can of chain cleaner/lube. Adequate for my needs.

The bike was a pretty stock Honda 500x. Had an aftermarket higher windscreen which was a bit of a mixed blessing for me, but that's a highly personal thing. Also had a RAM ball mounted on the handlebar with a cradle for one of their GPS units. I decided to pass on the GPS and removed the cradle, in favor of my own RAM phone mount. All their bikes have RAM balls with removable GPS cradles so this is a good option if you want to bring your own, but need to keep in mind power requirements. The Honda has no auxiliary power outlet so I brought a power-pack to keep in my tank bag and power the phone for navigation purposes.

The bike had just been maintained and had a brand new rear tire. The front tire was still in very good shape and all the obvious parts -- brakes, chain, etc. -- looked great.

Luggage was pretty standard basic Givi bags. The three of them are identical and can be switched between the sides and top which makes for lots of flexibility if you're doing day rides from a base. Along the way I rode it with all three, with the two sides only, the top only, and completely bag-free. All nicely set up.

Prior to arrival I purchased travel insurance to cover potential problems and damage. I strongly recommend this in New Zealand, particularly for those of us from parts of the world where normal insurance and roadside coverage includes a lot more. Compared to Europe and North America, NZ put more responsibility on the individual rider/driver to be prepared to take care of themselves. Typical insurance on a rental leaves you liable for $2500. Roadside coverage generally does not cover at-fault damage or other problems. Since I was on vacation and didn't want to have to worry about any of this, I spent the money on travel coverage. This is something to be aware or, especially if you're heading off the beaten path to places where assistance might be expensive.

Riding in New Zealand is a dream and a smaller bike like the Honda was perfect for solo riding at the moderate speeds on the two-lane roads that are typical on the South Island. Really incomparable to anything in the US where you seem to always be stuck in traffic or on a road where everybody is blowing you away at ridiculous speeds. Riding in NZ allows you to take it easy, stop and smell the roses or at least stop for a flat white and a pie at the places that seem to pop up every hour or so along the way. I'm looking forward to my next trip in the coming year.

My wife and I had a great time thanks to Motorent.nz

While planning the trip from France they were very understanding with the time it could take to answer an email or pay the deposit... They rent good quality bikes for a competitive price and when we needed road assistance, Ian took car of everything even a Sunday night : he sorted out how we could find a shop to let the bikes, bought plane tickets for us to go back to Auckland and catch our plane back to France an refunded the two days during witch we coulnd't use the bikes even if only one of the bikes was broken!

When traveling abroad it is always a very nice thing to have good assistance and it was the case with Motorent.nz

If it weren't a 36h flight from here, I would come back tomorrow!

If you were to look up the definition of stress free in the dictionary I'm sure you would find Motorent listed. Luggage included, dirt roads allowed and unlimited mileage, what more could I ask for, easy pick up and drop off, a flat tyre fixed with a new tyre while we had breakfast the list goes on. I've used them twice in a year and I'll use them again. First experience was on my own and the second with my son, even having my original bike damaged just before I was due to arrive was handled in the most professional manner by Ian. I was always kept informed and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Bravo.

I hired the BMW f800gs for 8 days. It was PERFECT for the trip. Enough power for overtaking slow tourists. Not too heavy. Easy to cruise on at 100km/h without chewing up the fuel. Very comfortable seat. Could easily ride for 2hrs straight. The panniers held a lot more than I thought they would. Rode through plenty of rain and everything stayed perfectly dry. Loved the heated grips and touring screen. I added a TomTom which was extremely useful for the trip. Thanks Jim! Can't wait to come back.

We have rented bikes and equipment from Motorent twice now, once in Wellington and the other in Auckland. Both experiences were fantastic. The bikes and equipment were in great condition, in some cases brand new and the Motorent team were extremely pleasant and helpful. I could not recommend them more highly. Price was very good as well.
