There are numerous walks and tracks criss-crossing the area which make for some great walks. If you are less likely to want to walk up the hill, you can drive almost to the summit with just a short walk up some steps to the war memorial. The summit gives awesome views out over the town and surrounds.

You can either walk, run, cycle or take the car to the summit. If you drive there's a small car park and it's then a few steps further up to the war memorial and lookout. The war memorial is one of the strangest I've ever seen - it's a tall obelisk that looks like it's made of corrugated steel with... More

It's an easy drive up through the suburbs to the memorial at the top of the hill, but it is far more worthwhile taking one of the many bush tracks up and an alternative one back to town. Lovely tranquil part of town with a rewarding vista of the city.

This is the first thing everyone should do when they come to Whangarei. An overall view of the city. It does help to have a car and drive straight up.

The war memorial is beautiful. It is a shame that "some" people feel the need to vandalize such a monument. The view is amazing and you can see for miles on a clear day!!!

Bit of a trek to get up here by car, and if you walk it can be fun from the riverside up a winding track... only for the fit and energetic! Once there the view is outstanding and there is information so you can discover what you are looking at. Worth a visit.

It is a short drive from the Whangarei town basin. The car park has friendly ambassadors. Good to know that the car is being watched. The view over Whangarei spans the city and the Hatea river.
