I took a motorcycle ride from Porto to see some of the traditional schist villages. Talasnal was one of them, along with Casal Novo, Chiqueiro, Candal and Cerdeira. The five that I visited are fairly close to each other, with the nearest town being Lousã....More

Nice village on top of the hill. Almost all houses are recovered or being recovered, very beautiful. It’s a desert town because almost all houses are for tourists so nothing is happening on the village, so don’t expect to see commerce beside 2-3 restaurants.

It’s a typical Portuguese village. The site is very well preserved. Is “must go” visit in Portugal. Around you can visit other typical villages. I use the “Aldeias de Xisto” app, which was a help.

This village of all slate dwellings is tucked away in the hills of Lousã. No inhabitants at present as all have been turned into rentals or weekend cottages, but there's a lovely Café and shop. Worth a quick visit or a getaway.
