ANZAC DAY
Apr 2019
Should you be visiting Tauranga on the 25th of April of any year, then attending the dawn service at the Mt Cenotaph will be something you never forget. Before dawn, returned servicemen and women gather. To the sound of the bagpipes they march to the cenotaph where a brief service takes place. Often a local high school student with speak or sing. As the service concludes you can hear the breaking of the waves and see the dawn breaking over the water, this is when a plane will fly low overhead and raise the hackles on your neck.
NOT TO BE MISSED.

At the rising of the sun we will remember them
If you need to reflect on your life then this is the place to watch the sun rise, take a moment to remember what those before us fought for so we could have what we have today.

So many died for this hopeless war cause, but they fought valiantly for the fading empire. So crazy that the soldiers traveled halfway around the world to fight this stupid war.

Simple and moving

This stout structure is hard by the ocean, overlooking the nearby islands of Moturiki and Motuotua, and guarded by the mass of the Mount. Close to Drury Park, it provides a focus for those who can be bothered to remember the sacrifices of our forebears, and will come alive at dawn on the 25th April once again.

Small but meaningful

If you blink you miss it but has all the significance of a massive memorial, it’s located on a grassy stretch beachside not much info around it and there is limited parking .

What a fitting tribute to the ANZAC fighters who lost their lives making the world a better place to live in. The Memorial Cenotaph is in such a fitting beautiful place on the main beach overlooking the Pacific with Moturiki Island in view.

Memorial with a view

The cenotaph is located on the main beach and not too difficult to find. It's near the main sign for the main beach. It isn't very big but it looks really nice with the beach in the background. The area is also quite scenic with Moturiki Island in the background as well as the beach.
