About
A circular walk though the wildflowers of the Kilkhampton Common nature reserve and woods of the Coombe Valley, returning via the remains of the Norman castle at Penstowe which consisted of a stone tower perched on the top of a steep hill but surrounded by two baileys, rather than the usual one, the reason for which is a mystery. 5 miles. Steepness: moderate-strenuous.

Very enjoyable walk even in heavy rain . Pity the pub wasn’t open at the end when we got back for lunch . Thoroughly recommend the walk and the directions were spot on

This walk was done after some heavy rains, but the route was fine, loved the river section and the common moor.
There is interest for every one, and the final section walking up to the old castle and then back to the finish is a great workout for the legs
