Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Do not confuse Uvdal Church with Uvdal Stave Church. If you're driving from west to east on Fv40 the Uvdal Church will be on the right just past the turn on to Fv122 you will have to make to get to the Uvdal Stave Church. It's built in a traditional style and it looks somewhat medieval but it's not.

Uvdal Stave Church was built in the 12th century. The exterior appears to be recently tarred which creates an authentic feel. The interior is ornately decorated, probably in the 17th century. A guided tour in English is provided upon request. There's a small open air museum with a number of old buildings scattered in the adjacent area. The admission fee covers both the church and the museum.

We were driving from Kongsberg to Geilo and had been advised that the route 40 was well worth it and we decided to visit the stage churches along the way.

This little gem is set in a museum of old and historic wooden buildings and the entrance fee of NOK 80/person is well worth it. You get access with a guide into the church and then can walk through the greenery and enjoy the other buildings at your leisure.

It was an added bonus that our dog was allowed into the grounds (not into the buildings but that wasn’t a problem and the lovely guide gave my husband and me separate tours so one of us could stay with the dog.

I know it’s possible to take photos from the car park but it’s definitely worth paying the entrance as it helps towards the upkeep and, for Norway, very reasonably priced.

Also good to know that they have a toilet in the grounds.

Was there while the buildings were closed, but nice area to walk around. Lots of old, historical farm buildings, good display of how things were 150-200 years ago. Will go back to go inside the buildings some other time.

This 12th century stave church is a real gem. It has a rich history and a fascinating interior with paintings, 1000 year old baptismal font, carved benches and a local history of the families living in the valley with names carved on the pew benches. Ask for the guide to give you a tour and the history - well worth it. The church is part of the Uvdal outdoor museum, which includes several other buildings and artifacts, all in a beautiful setting with views of the valley. We loved this place! Visited in June.

Less known than some other stave churches in Hallingdal, but the location is unbeatable. Wonderful interior. Worth a visit.
