Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Popular stopping place for great Coffee and Cakes and Meals too, as well as seeing the old rolling stock and Rail Engine complete with Cow Catcher

Decided to take my elderly mum back to a place she knew from her childhood so off to Helensville. A sleepy town adjacent to the Kaipara Harbour about 45 minutes from Auckland. The town certainly looked sleepy this Sunday afternoon with a few cafes open for passing trade. We went down to the railway station at the far end of town. A great building, long deserted by passenger trains and now home to the Ginger Crunch Cafe.
Nice and warm inside and a reasonable crowd. Disabled access which was good.
Queue at the counter as a group of German tourists struggled with their choices. No need to hurry. Rather limited choices available to eat. A few homemade slices and a small blackboard menu.
We all had eggs Benedict and they were served in reasonable time. One coffee and a large tea for two. Service friendly and prices average. We would go back again.

Popped in to this neat old building whilst at the cafe. Cool place. Don't be put off by the frontage. This book is better than its cover.

Very good menu for breakfast or lunch. We really enjoyed the homemade plum crumble cake. A real asset to Helensville.

Coffee was great, srevice was very good, the prices for food we thought was excessive when compared with similar places in the area.

What a find, we were out for a drive and needed to find a place to have lunch with kids. The old train station in helensville was alive with people. The kids had books and toys to enjoy while we waited. The food was great, big portions and fair prices. I had the caboose Burger which I struggled to eat it was massive and the best I have had in a while . The home made aioli was to die for. We will be back for sure .

My family and I had lunch here, good coffee, friendly staff but the menu is small but the food is ok. I would use again.
The cafe is part of the old Helensville railway station.

I have visited this station several times over recent years. Its former refreshment rooms have become a popular Ginger Crunch cafe. Other facilities include a well-stocked River Cottage Antiques, Art on Track Gallery and Nature's Palette gifts and home decor. Nearby is the new Helensville Railway Museum that is a gem. It features an extensive New Zealand-style model railway, Working tablet signalling machines, video screen presentation, stationmaster's office and tons of local memorabilia. The railway museum is staffed by friendly, knowledgeable enthusiasts. Across the road is the restored Grand Hotel offering accomodation
