Visit Bruges, it is a small town full of history and charm. The lovely square in the centre, the miles of rivers and bridges. Don't miss the cherry beer.

This review is more for the town as a whole not just the Town Hall. We have heard a lot about Bruges but often people get a little carried with their enthusiasm for somewhere they like, so we often treat such descriptions with the proverbial "pinch o salt". So when we had the opportunity to visit this town last Monday we were very much taken aback. This town is far, far better than we could have imagined, and the Doubting Thomas`s that we were have left overawed by the beauty of the place. The descriptions of our friends simply do not do justice to the delightful ambiance and no description I could give would really convey just how fantastic this town actually is. If you like photography this town is a must. If you like old world charm or are a lover of architecture (not new stuff) then this is the place for you. If your taste is for either chocolate or beer then this is the "must visit" destination. BUT be warned one visit may not be enough, we are already looking forward to our next visit. One more thing you must do is to take a boat trip on the canal to see the town from the water its well worth it.

The older part of the building dates back to the 1600s, the newer part with the tower was added in the 1920s. The whole building is protected as world heritage. The town hall cannot really be visited at the inside (except the ground floor, which is used by the city administration, and some rooms on the first floor when the city council meets or when there is a marriage). Exceptionally, and only some years, the rest of the building can be visited on Open Monuments Day - if it's open on that day, I would recommend it!

The Town Hall is a rectangular building looks like a shrine which immediately catch the eye. The Gothic Room in the Town Hall is still being used today. Beautiful wall paintings deposit rich past of Bruges . On one side of Town Hall one can see and admire crypt of Saint Basil. This is must visit site when ever you are at Bruges.
