I visited Pacentro last week during a stay in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Despite the Madonna connection, this village has retained the tradtional Italian village community feel. Some of the buildings in the historic centre are over 600 years old, with several churches and...More

We drove to Pacentro from Sulmona for the afternoon. Approaching the town, one can see a small town, dominated by two ancient towers, clinging precariously to the side of the hill. Sign directions were nowhere to be found so we parked and walked into the...More

Wander along medieval streets, admire the castle and all the historical buildings, taste the local cuisiine. Ranked one of the most beautiful towns in Italy (i borghi piu' belli d'Italia), and it totally deserves it!

We visited on a very hot August day. The quaint narrow streets offered shelter from the heat and fabulous vistas. Worth the visit!

Only a half hour drive from sulmona, this is truly a special little town. There are some fantastic little bars and restaurants but the only thing is that you need to find them as there aren't many... other than that it's truly a special place.

This is a beautiful little village perched on the side of a mountain with amazing panoramic views from the top. The streets are steep and narrow, clean and quiet. The two room home where an old lady lived all her life until the 1970s is...More

Pacentro is a pretty medieval village tucked into a mountain just behind Sulmona. It is worth a visit to see the castle, the Colle Castello, and get your daily exercise, climbing the steep and narrow paths to get a taste of the typical Abruzzo hillside settlement....More

We visited after the big snows of January 2017. Narrow streets hemmed in by snow piles and a beautiful church, the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Misericordia.

This is an out of the way Castle remnant and Tower only minutes from Sulmona. Well worth the drive and the 2€ price of admission. An hour and you will see great views of the valley and plateau.

We spent a lovely day walking the streets of this lovely little town, and toured the castle for 2 Euro. From the top of the castle you can see the entire Peligna valley, and marvel at the magnificent defensive planning of the people who built...More
