Make sure you check the tides. It is necessary to cross a causeway, this can only be done at low tide. Steep steps leading from the headland down to the causeway and across to Kukutauwhao Island where the lighthouse is situated. The walk from the...More

Worth the effort but some of it is pretty tough going, there are some pretty steep parts of the track and I would not recommend it if you are not so steady on your feet. The view from the lighthouse makes it all worth while...More

This is a 2km walk taking about an hour, more if you stop for the views. Access is easy about two hours either side of low tide. The walk down to the beach has well made steps but on the other side it's all dirt...More

Easy walk to Kukutauwhao Island but the track from the beach to the top towards the light house is quite physical demanding. Nevertheless, the first part of the walkway has cover the best view so not necessary to do the climbing.

One of the dive masters at Dive Tutukaka let us in on this secret walk that isn't commonly on the regular tourist radar (but totally should be, although I'm hoping it'll stay a secret so we can all enjoy this sanctuary a little while longer)....More

Firstly ignore the unhelpful signs put up by locals to say private road and limited turning. It is the turning up above Tutukaka marina (not down at the marina), the road is open to the public and there is a good car park at the...More

Visited this lighthouse headland 2 years ago---easy walk and I enjoyed it. you walk down a steep path to sea rocks that you hop over to get to a little beach and then a bush path to the lighthouse.
