We are an active couple in our seventies and , having been advised that it was a must-do, we made the booking to snorkel at the Poor Knights while touring around Northland in our 4X4, the day before in bright sunlight. Forecast for the day was partly cloudy with increased wind but we were assured things would be fine for snorkeling . The day dawned overcast and gloomy and we tried to postpone the trip for later in our tour of Northland but were told that the full fare ($NZ420) would still be deducted from our credit card. Reluctantly we had to go . The staff at the boat said the sea was warm and that we would only need the lightweight short wet-suits which we hired. The sea was very lumpy and my wife was sick all the way out and back . My wife ended up hypothermic after about 15 min of snorkeling and I was very cold . I did a brief second dive but she did not go back in again. The scenery and fish life were amazing but what could have been an amazing experience ended up an endurance test, especially for my wife. While appreciating that times are hard in the industry at the moment with Covid restrictions, I am not sure that our experience reflected well on the company.... ADVICE TO OTHER SNORKELERS - try to avoid overcast days - and pick the heavier wet-suits if you have to go on an overcast day

Awesome dive trip to the Poor Knights Islands with Yukon Dive. Paula is an excellent dive guide with a great amount of local knowledge who lead us on a very interesting dive and pointed out many things of interest during the 2 dives. All the crew were very professional and the captain gave a very interesting commentary of the area and ecology during our surface stop. All the equipment is good quality and in very good condition. The divers lift is pure luxury, so much easier to get out of the water than any other method.

Such an excellent trip best value for money. Did the live aboard option 2nights absolutely magical, the crew are amazing people everyone was super accommodating for the passengers on board giving us the best trip they could. The food is amazing and more than enough great portion sizes. The cabins are great really comfortable. The Dive masters are very knowledgeable and experienced always felt safe and comfortable when diving overall definitely a bucket list everyone should do atleast once In their life and Yukon are my number one recommendation.
