- Catherine S20 contributionsGreat walkFabulous walk. Took us just about 1 hour with good breaks at the top of the cliff looking out over the Canterbury Plains and base of the waterfall. Need some level of fitness. Well-sign posted through out the walk. The information hut gave good information prior to commencing or finishing the walk. Cost $10 per adult. Worth the money as this is a privately owned walk way. So much work has been done to maintain the track eg steps, bridges, stairs and ropes Really like the look of the accommodation on offer.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 January 2024

Amazing views. Did it in the time they advised and we were a bit unwell. An absolute highlight of our trip. Loved the nod to the War. Loved the old shed with the info Loved the retro bug spray Did not mind the $10 fee for track upkeep AND IT WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. Loved the info sheet and the numbered and signed points of interestVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 January 2024
- EmmaChristchurch, New Zealand483 contributionsA fantastic walk! This is an amazing walk and I can’t believe I have lived in Christchurch for over 8 years and it’s taken me this long to do the walk. The scenery and landscape changes throughout the walk, the walk itself is not a hard walk. Yet it’s so satisfying. It’s private property so you can pay $10 per person cash into the honesty box or bank transfer. You get a map of the walk detailing all the areas of interest along the way which is great. The falls themself are cool but the entire walk really is wonderful. Only about an hours drive from Christchurch.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 July 2024

A very good walk with great views and worth the trek to see the falls. Unfortunately, since it had rained in the last 24 hours the track was very slippery & wet in most places. One lady had slipped & hurt her ankle & one family with a young girl was crying because she was scared of slipping down a steep part of the track. However, there was a warning about the track being wet & slippery in the Information Hut before you start. The track is well signposted in most areas and is well maintained. It took my husband & I one hour with a few photo & drink stops. There's a nice open hut with benches & tables by Stone Lake to have a good break & snack. There's also toilets & a hose to clean your muddy shoes at a house in the carpark. A well set up area.

We are so blessed in New Zealand to have beautiful bush walks.
Fantastic walk and I was stoked that I completed it. They say it’s medium level,
personally I would rate it medium-hard.
I’m vertically challenged height wise and some of the steps were a tad difficult to navigate.
The views were spectacular, the bush fragrance delicious and the bonus native birds tweeting.
Very informative hut with maps and walking sticks for your use-no charge.
I recommend buying a pot of honey-yummy!
Ten dollars entry fee for track maintenance.
A must do!

Can not recommend this enough. The walk is absolutely beautiful, the wildlife and scenery is superb. So many photo opportunities and some great places to stand 'on the edge'. The track is well maintained and the guy was so lovely and helpful. Was a fantastic atmosphere from the moment we arrived. This adventure is for all....you will not be disappointed. Amazing value for money, $10 per adult and $5 per child. Takes a couple of hours to complete if you take the time to enjoy your surroundings.

This was the best place I have every stayed, so private, everything was perfect. Comfortable bed, amazing hot tub, outdoor ans indoor kitchen! Your own pond with a row boat! So romantic and peaceful. Can’t wait to go back

Private land walk with average fee. $10/$5 adult/child.
Bit of a challenging walk up.
Even if it has not rained for awhile there were a lot of muddy sections.
Good signage and information brochures on things along the track.
Water at bottom of waterfall swimmable, but cold!
Not suitable for prams or very young children.
Highly recommended!!!

The amazing bush walk, birdsong all the way through, incredible vista across the plains, lunch at the waterfall! We had such a lovely time, there was plenty of interesting information provided in the handout. The walk was relatively easy, going in summer probably makes it easier, as track was mainly dry. Watch out for the sandflies at the falls!!

I was having a wonderful day until the land owner spoiled it for our group. Instead of telling us nicley as there was no sign or anything displayed we felt very threatened and un welcome when the owner started swearing "get the fu** out of here" (Because we had a flavoured vape) and also a racist comment aimed at some friends "go back to where you came from" was the exact words spoken, how disgusting?! I think that the way he spoke to us was very poor. I can't recommend this place to anyone, $10 for a small waterfall and bring abused by an awful man. Instead go to the devils punchbowl in Arthur's pass, it's free and much bigger and you won't get abused.

Are visitors allowed to take a swim at the waterfall? Is it safe?
Written 7 January 2019
I’m pretty sure because it is a working farm so no dogs are allowed.

Just wondering how long does it take to get to the waterfall? Is it an hour to the waterfall then an hour back? Is it possible just to walk to the waterfall and turn back? Thanks 😀
