Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing walk with several different types of terrain. Beautiful falls. Lovely clear water.
Lovely bush. Amazing views. Did it in the time they advised and we were a bit unwell. An absolute highlight of our trip.
Loved the nod to the War.
Loved the old shed with the info
Loved the retro bug spray
Did not mind the $10 fee for track upkeep AND IT WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED.
Loved the info sheet and the numbered and signed points of interest

Fabulous walk. Took us just about 1 hour with good breaks at the top of the cliff looking out over the Canterbury Plains and base of the waterfall. Need some level of fitness. Well-sign posted through out the walk. The information hut gave good information prior to commencing or finishing the walk. Cost $10 per adult. Worth the money as this is a privately owned walk way. So much work has been done to maintain the track eg steps, bridges, stairs and ropes Really like the look of the accommodation on offer.

The amazing bush walk, birdsong all the way through, incredible vista across the plains, lunch at the waterfall! We had such a lovely time, there was plenty of interesting information provided in the handout. The walk was relatively easy, going in summer probably makes it easier, as track was mainly dry. Watch out for the sandflies at the falls!!

Private land walk with average fee. $10/$5 adult/child.
Bit of a challenging walk up.
Even if it has not rained for awhile there were a lot of muddy sections.
Good signage and information brochures on things along the track.
Water at bottom of waterfall swimmable, but cold!

Not suitable for prams or very young children.
Highly recommended!!!

While there were some special parts of this walk especially in the area following the main falls ( the black birch and stream) and some great views overall we were a bit underwhelmed by the experience. The track was muddy and steep in sections. it was interesting to read at each number location about that area. Overall while it was a pleasant walk don’t expect a national park experience or the wow factor that we experienced everywhere in Otago.

Loved this! A solid hike with wonderful and varied scenery - bush, birds, waterfalls , widescape views. 2 hours and moderate fitness needed.

We here in New Zealand are blessed to have places like this to venture into. Having seen photos of friends who'd visited here I decided it was my turn. I managed the walk in less than 2 hours and that was after taking breaks climbing up steps and inclines (not my strengths). I was rewarded with some awesome views and magical scenes....well worth the drive up. I would personally recommend it for someone who wants to do it solo like I did

Although I would dispute that this is easy, it was worthwhile for the stunning scenery into deep ravines, the caves, the waterfalls, the views over the plains and the continuous song of the bellbirds. The track is well maintained, steps in places, took us an hour and a half with many stops for photographs and a paddle at the Washpen falls..

A very good walk with great views and worth the trek to see the falls. Unfortunately, since it had rained in the last 24 hours the track was very slippery & wet in most places. One lady had slipped & hurt her ankle & one family with a young girl was crying because she was scared of slipping down a steep part of the track. However, there was a warning about the track being wet & slippery in the Information Hut before you start. The track is well signposted in most areas and is well maintained. It took my husband & I one hour with a few photo & drink stops. There's a nice open hut with benches & tables by Stone Lake to have a good break & snack. There's also toilets & a hose to clean your muddy shoes at a house in the carpark. A well set up area.
