Penny was kind enough to accomodate us after the owners of the house we were originally booked into unfortunately had their property damaged by the recent earthquake. We were blown away by this stunning and artistically designed garden crafted by Penny over many years. It has to be seen to be believed and after coming from the the dry hot... More

It was a magical setting for a marriage ceremony held in Flaxmere Garden with a profusion of Autumnal colours - truly awesome in every sense of the word. I have had the privilege of visiting Flaxmere on several occasions and eveytime, in all seasons and all weather it is simply a most beautiful place to be.

This autumn has been a real joy in spite of being so dry, and being able to share it all for a wedding was magic for me as well More

I have visited a number of private gardens and Flaxmere has left the most precious memories for me. I was touched by the story of its owner (Penny) and then simply got lost in the tranquility and beauty of Flaxmere Garden. The ponds, the distribution of self seeding flowers and the wonderful trees, each telling a story of a gardener... More

Just two days ago I visited The Flaxmere Garden of Penny Zino; when she walked through the wooden door leading from the back of the garden I saw a woman with old world charm and when she introduced herself her blue eyes were filled with light They were clear, showing no signs of the scars of age. This old world... More

Most of all I hope when visitors come, somehow this garden will feed their souls. Gardens can help us all to be in tune with nature, and allow us to take root, almost like a tree. More

Penny welcomed me warmly on a cold wet day. I am in awe of what she and her late husband have created over more than fifty years. Her vision, creativity, artistic eye and passion for plants and design have blended to make a joyful garden with an inspirational vision at every turn. I am in total admiration of her work.... More

The gardens are about 50 minutes drive from Hammer Springs. The gardens are fabulously laid out and have great vistas down paths and across water features. The cottage sleeps four in a very comfortable cottage with a great outlook. A pool made the hot days more enjoyable. I am looking forward to returning to see the autumn colours at some... More

A fantastic garden set in 7 acres with mature trees and borders with developing areas as well. Truly spectacular. The rhododedrons were a picture and every corner had a different view towards mountains or more garden.

I find looking through this garden inspirational, from the native New Zealand plants area, to the more formal areas. The vistas from various spots are beautiful and just draw your eye to the surrounding hills. Thank you for allowing us to view your beautiful garden,

We were lucky to come across this garden when driving from Christchurch to Hanmer Springs. It is an oasis of luxurious plantings, ambitiously designed to create enchanting spaces that shelter from the renowned high winds of the area, yet encompass and complement the magnificent vistas of the countryside. We would love to return to enjoy in different seasons. Anyone with... More
