I had the pleasure of practising yoga with Malaika at the Spice Harmony Yoga Studio when I was on holiday in Grenada in 2014. It’s a really pleasant and relaxing space. This was my first time practicing yoga using the Great Yoga Wall and I loved it. It was a great way to practice some of the postures. Malaika is an excellent instructor, encouraging, supportive and attentive. I particularly remember the way she helped me to master the half moon pose. If you are looking for a great space to practice your yoga then this is the place for you.

Our visit to Spice Harmony was thoroughly excellent. It is a truly lovely space in which to practice yoga. The yoga room seems purpose-built, or otherwise well-adapted, being spacious, with a comfortable floor and good natural light, while its slight elevation allows it to access plenty of breeze -- no need for whirring fans or other potentially distracting devices. I'd never encountered a vertical yoga wall before, and Malaika taught each of us how to use it, noticing that I was over-flexing the rope, and helping me to find the right way to approach it. The yoga wall was a definite plus, bringing a new perspective for me on otherwise familiar postures. In general, Malaika is a very perceptive individual, and the perception is evident in her teaching. Instead of seeking to impress or lecture, she simply gives good instruction and is the kind of teacher that helps enable her students to make the most of their practice. She has a generally encouraging demeanor and keeps the space inclusive to students at different levels, maintaining good balance between the seasoned and beginners at all times. We practiced yoga with Malaika several times at another location, and while the standard of the yoga was always high, Spice Harmony was by far the nicer space. When in the relaxation pose at Spice Harmony, I could hear birds chirping in the distance, and smell the occassional scent of trees in the breeze, which strenghthened the feeling of a connection with nature, which asserts itself strongly on the Spice Island. It all takes place in the multifaceted building that functions as a local healthcare provider, as well as the family home. Malaika and her family are well-known and rightly respected on the island for their engagement with the local community, their commitment to social justice, and for Malaika's artistic endeavors. Spice Harmony thus remains an inclusive space for locals and visitors alike. The price is extremely reasonable, for the quality of the service provided. And if you don't have a car and are staying in Grand Anse or elsewhere in the south, Spice Harmony is easy to access by public transportation too. I wholeheartedly recommend Spice Harmony. We know we will be back at the earliest opportunity, and we're looking forward to being able to experience moonlight pop-up yoga on the beach as well.
