Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I've been to this brewery twice and have enjoyed my visit both times. Maybe sometime I'll take the tour. But tour aside, there's lots to experience and the surroundings are just so very pleasant and peaceful. Maybe with bus loads of tourists it would be less so but fortunately there were few during my visits. Everything is just so clean and perfectly maintained, showing you that a state-owned brewery is clearly a money maker! The restaurant is very nice, as well as the new Schnellimbiss toward the back of the huge "essplatz" (we had a snack at the Schnellibiss - it was fine and not expensive). Lots of outdoor seating. The gift shop is interesting (a bit pricey) and the small museum (free) toward the back of the big building to the right of the restaurant is very interesting, regardless of your German comprehension. You can of course sample the beers within the gift shop/bar area (not sure of the cost of that). A very pleasant drive (on a nice day - it would be a nightmare in rain or snow) to the Rothaus complex. I'll go back!

A waste of our time, in a wonderful area. We decided to visit this place on the 4th of January 2022, following the suggestion of the local info center. But our visit turned out in a very unpleasant experience. To begin with, we were able to enter the visiting area of the brewery without being check. Since we had no tickets nor audio guides, we went to the reception to buy tickets. We were two fully vaccinated children and two boostered adults. The lady at the desk refused to let us enter (the unattended brewery visiting area) because the children according to her needed a negative covid test. Subsequently, we showed her the 2Gplus rules (27th december) of Baden Wuerttemberg online, where it is clearly written in red letters that fully vaccinated children can enter, she still remained with her idea...

We enjoyed our visit to Rothaus. We did not arrive in time for the organised tour . Sue had lunch in the restaurant and the meal was very good ( and large!) and reasonably priced. My husband enjoyed a pork knuckle and potato dumplings whilst I enjoyed the Pork Roast. Of course Both washed down with really good beer.
The gift shop has very reasonably priced beer steins and a very wide selection of clothing, beers, model trucks etc
The scenery on the drive and from the brewery is stunning. It was approx an hour drive back to Freiburg where we were staying

We got the land train to the brewery, the tour was very interesting and gave a great history to the brewery and the part it plays in the economy if the local community.

The place is really nice. They have a good tour, good food, a small but interesting shop and of course nice and tasty beer.

Rothaus is a well known beer brand of the Black Forest region. The brewery together with the restaurant and the giftshop makes a great program. All around the brand. Twice a day they offer a guided 90 minutes tour in the factory in german language only. I speak a little german, but understood the main points. They also offer an audioguide in other languages also, which is an outside walkaround the factory with infoboards. A great experience for a beerlover. Worth a visit while in the region.

This was a wonderful brewery tour even though it was not operating at the time. My wife and I do not speak or understand German well enough, so I'm sure we missed some things from the tour, however it was still enjoyable. The entire Rothaus campus is well appointed and very worthwhile. The gift shop isn't bad, either.

It is a formidable entertainment parc revolving around the Rothaus beer and other alcoholic products (a.o. Whisky). Visit the museum and the brewery, eat in the restaurant and have a beer on the terrace in the sun. For the guided tour of the brewery, plan in advance as there are only few tours each days.

I've been to several brewery tours before but this is the most informative one ever. The tour comes with a free bagel and a beer and the souvenir shop has plenty of interesting merchandise (their merch luggage was really cool though a bit expensive).

Came with a prebooking and the Black Forest card which gets you a discount on the tour, so I only paid 6 euros.
Wonderful and informative tour (although in German, but I got the gist), and very typically German in the attention paid to the technical and mechanical aspects of beer brewing. Tour comes with a free bagel and a bottle of beer, which were both very good.
Super cheap beer at the shop too!

If coming from the U.S. is Zürich the closest major airport? And if so is, I’m guessing a train would be able to get me up to The Brewery / Black Forest area? I’m planning on making this trip in 2019 & want to spend a couple of nights at the Brewery hotel / Inn Any recommendations on time of year? I’m thinking September or October?

The nearest major airports are Zurich, Stuttgart, possibly Basel. September or October is certainly a good idea for traveling in the Black Forest. I recommend you from Schluchsee a Segway Tour to brewery, there a visit and then comfortable food and drink in the Rothaus restaurant. Michael S BlackForest
