    Romantic chateau
Romantic looking chateau - still owned by the family. They have a Sleeping Beauty theme as the author of the fairy tale took his inspiration from Usse., which takes you up the round towers. Small but pretty gardens, and wonderful chapel. We enjoyed our trip

Visited 5 Chateaux, this was number 2!
Really enjoyed our visit here. A few reviews mention the high prices, they're actually slightly cheaper than Chambord, Villandry, and Chennencau. For me I loved the architecture of this Chateau and the different levels the garden and surrounds are built on. Definitely worth a visit!

    Beautiful Chateau
Easy parking on the side of the River Indre. Parking lot is gravel. The chateau is dog friendly in the grounds/gardens and inside the chateau itself! There is no gardens-only ticket. The chateau was the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale and has dedicated one of the towers to dioramas that explain the story. Very interesting. The gardens are really nice too.

I took the train from Blois to Tours to meet the tour company Tour Evasion. The 4 chateau day excursion included 2 I wouldn’t have been able to reach on my own. Chateau d’Usse was one of them. The narrow tower to Sleeping Beauty’s chambers is very tight for groups of people ascending it. Also, it was early September and almost 30c. There were scenes and storybook pages and the Disney soundtrack playing in the tower. The gardens were simple in red and white, but very elegant. The rest of the castle featured an exhibit of what the inhabitants lives would be throughout the years. There was also a gift shop near the entrance.

For the price, underwhelming. Very few rooms open. A view over a perspex partition did not enhance the experience. Many beautiful dresses on display, but confusing to those who don't know their fashion history, ie jumbled together. For me the worst was the 'Sleeping Beauty Tower' I am not sure a much loved timeless classic needs to be souped up with neon flashing lights...oh the horror!!

This chateau is best seen from the outside, which is stunning.

The entrance price is quite steep compared to some other more interesting chateaus, and also 3 Euro more than indicated on the website.

The castle interiors are very disappointing and the whole enterprise would benefit from being refreshed

A stunning château from first sight, you can understand why it was the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty. The difference with Château d’Ussé is that it has been owned by the same family for almost 200 years. The attention to detail to enhance the visitor experience was exceptional. From mannequins in historic costumes in keeping with the decor of specific interiors, was wonderful and really brought the history and the story to life. Beautifully preserved interiors and detailed information in English as well as French brought the whole experience together. The highlight, particularly for children, would have to be the Princesses Tower with rooms set depicting key points of the Sleeping Beauty story, absolutely amazing. A special memory for me was looking through the attics and the old family items covered in dust giving the impression of hidden treasures yet to be discovered. The best historic property visit I have ever experienced.

This Castle needs to start using the money tourists pay to enter and restore it. It is a shame how the owners are not properly preserving this historic place that is so beautiful.

To be honest, I don’t even know where to start my impressions of visiting the castle, there are so many of them and they are all amazing. We started our visit according the map, because the territory is huge and we didn't want to miss anything. Started with the Chapel, after the cellars, the stables, even a small but horrible prison, the Chateau, and then the terraces and gardens and in very end the Sleeping Beauty's exhibition. The castle looks like a cartoon from Disney fairy tales or when little girls play doll castles at home. Our journey through castle began - Grand Staircase, Grand Gallery, Grand Hall, Guardroom , King's Chamber, etc.

Each year, the Chateau d'Usse puts on an exhibition of costumes from different eras to accompany you along your tour. This year, we were very lucky, to get to the fashion exhibition “Like mother, like daughter” - figures and mannequins of "mothers" and "daughters" dressed in costumes from different eras are scattered throughout the halls of the castle.
Gardens and terraces, both are "formidable" and well manicured, a joy for the eyes, and a separate rose garden is delightful even in September. It is Le Nôtre in person who created the remarkable formal French gardens for Ussé, the very same Le Nôtre who created the gardens for the Palace of Versailles.

And at the very end, we climbed the spiral staircase to the attic to meet the Sleeping Beauty, fairy tale characters and just a miracle. Located in the oldest part of the Chateau, we could discover re-created scenes from the story of Sleeping Beauty, attics, several hundred year old roofing and a panoramic view of the valley. The castle is open all year round, but need to check the website as opening hours may vary by season. Parking is free. The whole visit took us about three hours. Highly recommend to visit, it is interesting for everyone, both adults and children.
