We visited the beach a couple of times over summer and found sitting in our very own hot water pool and watching the sun set with a bottle of wine serene and majestic. Not too many people here and the temprature is just right. Mid...More

Kawhia (KA-fia) Hot Water Beach is a wonderful find at the end of the road along the Tasman Sea form town. The drive in along a windy tall pine tree lined road is beautiful. There's an ample dirt parking area with a well marked path...More

We have been there early in the morning (7 am) during low tide. This may be the reason why there was no one else on the beach but still I would assume this beach to be far less crowded than Coromandel also during the day....More

Must know the tides, at low tide you can dig your own hot pool, as big and deep as you like. It is a free spa experience, just a little digging required.

Visit 2hrs either side of low tide (the hot spring is covered at high tide). Take a spade so you can dig your own spa. Make sure you dig a bit first to see if you have found a hot spot; sometimes it can feel...More

We would highly recommend a trip to Kawhia and the ocean beach with the hot springs. In summer wear good footwear as the sand up and over the dunes gets very very hot. Take a spade and dig a hole at the bottom of the...More

You need to go on a cloudy day to enjoy this beach. From the car park, you would need to walk for about 500m including conquering a massive sand dune, before you finally enjoy the breathtaking view. Worth the climb though. Families with small kids...you'll...More

There is a MASSIVE sand dune you must overcome before you reach the beach. For people who are unfit, this is a workout BUT once you reach the bottom, it is seriously worth it. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes. I was wearing sneakers and...More

No bbq area at the beach. There is a toilet (bad shape), but nothing more. But you will be more or less alone at the beach. So bring your stuff and leave no trace. It will be fine. Don’t forget the shovel and be there 2h... More
