Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Such a fantastic place to have in Havelock. It’s a beautiful drive up here. The trains are amazing and for all ages. Great place to bring visitors. In the summer they often have a ice cream van. Good price. Great staff.

This little train is so much fun for adults and children alike. Friendly characters run the whole train set up. Highly recommend especially on a beautiful Hawkes Bay day.

Loved the care taken to design the tracks, going on bridges and tunnels, with a charming garden surrounding the train track. Our boys loved the visit; would heartily recommend to families.

Parklike grounds suitable for picnics, although the long weekend we were there food & drink sales were available. A ride on the model trains costs $2 a ride or $15 for a 12 ride ticket. Goes over bridges & through 3 tunnels travelling over 800 meters of track. Great for young & old. Only downside for us was a carriage with an unpleasant squealing wheel. They run every 2nd & 4th Sunday of the month, from 11am until 4pm.

This railway is run by volunteers who work incredibly hard to see that children and their parents/ grandparents have a delightful experience. There is usually an ice cream van which on a hot day is appreciated. There is a small playground as well.
Plenty of lovely places around the gardens to have a picnic. Be aware that you can only buy tickets for the train rides with cash. This is a popular activity so the queues at the station can seem long but all move along quite quickly. Best to look up what weekends they are running

Our 3rd visit today and it is still so enjoyable for everyone - both young and old! As usual, lots of people turn out so we find it best to go as early as possible. Plus, you then get your rides in before the sun gets too hot. We buy a concession ticket which is very good value. Thank you to the volunteers that run the day - you do a great job! A walk through the gardens afterwards is lovely too.

Only open every second Sunday so took the opportunity to visit this time.
Got there just before stated opening time of 11 and was already open.
Glad we got there when we did as queue quickly formed behind us.
Efficiently run and a great track to drive around with nice views.
Definitely worth a visit with kids and great value at $2 a person.

Our 2nd visit a few years later and our 6 year old grandson loved it almost as much as when he was 4. And his 1 year old sister was all smiles on her first mini-train-ride.

The train enthusiasts who run this specialty railroad ride do a fantastic job and whenever you hear about the operating dates, you should plan to take your kids or grandkids...DO!
