About
The Great Hall tells the story of Toronto’s past, present, and future in a revitalized Victorian heritage building. Completed in 1889, it first served as the West End YMCA, and through the early 20th Century evolved into an essential meeting place for Torontonians, hosting public speaking events and the performing arts. During the Prohibition era it housed the headquarters for a temperance society, and later provided much-needed housing for refugees from World War II. Since the dawn of this century The Great Hall has re-established its reputation as an incomparable landmark venue for signature corporate events and milestone social occasions.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Caught a concert in the Long Boat Hall. Was a great show, I really liked the venue. Sounds was good, nice small intimate room. Really good feel in the venue. Staff was good, washrooms were clean. Good experience.
Looking forward to catching a concert in the Great Hall next.

My first time in the Great Hall, in fact before last night I have never heard of it !!

Watched two great live bands there last night, what an awesome little venue.

Great sound, the bar is perfectly situated at the back of the main hall, and really good sound. Bathrooms are spotless, and the whole evening could not have been better.

We attended a family wedding at this venue this past weekend. It was amazing. It couldn't have suited the couple or the crowd better. What an amazing night. The servers were super friendly. The downstairs for the ceremony and later the dinner was perfect! The upper level for drinks and apps while we waited to be seated was great.

The reason I gave a lower rating is clear. After awhile and later at night, when we would get up to dance or just chat with other people during the reception, we would return to the table and realize all of our drinks had been removed from the table by the staff....full ones! There were full glasses of wine, spirits and beer. This is unacceptable. I don't know if management told the staff to do this, but STOP!! People pay enough for drinks! Don't ruin the night by wasting drinks and making people pay more than they need to. You just went from a high class rating to a mediocre for that reason. This is such an "old school" and "ancient" way of doing business. Are you kidding me? There isn't enough competition in Toronto that you would know not to harm your reputation in this way???

Sell drinks, people drink them, and they buy more!!! Don't be deceptive and dishonest. This is not appreciated by anyone. This wedding was high class. The bride's parents paid for the bar. To have management or owners take advantage of such generosity by telling staff to clear full drinks off of tables?? Unacceptable!!! You should be ashamed!!

Otherwise, thank you to the beautiful family and couple that hosted this wedding! It was a wonderful evening that we will never forget!

To The Great Hall....be better!! Your paying guests deserve better!!

Hi KNK9019, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted to know that you have enjoyed your time at the wedding. With regards to the comments regarding drinks being removed, we regret that such matter took place, as we were unaware that the outside contracted catering team were removing full drinks from tables - generally only drinks that are left unattended for a long period of time will be cleared. That being said, we would like to clarify that the bar package in question for this wedding was on a flat rate package, unlimited open bar, saying that we were not charging based on per drink consumption. We pride ourselves on integrity of service and ethical business practices, and would never attempt to overcharge our clients. Regards, The Great Hall

Great venue for this event. This was an amazing experience that I never expected. The Canadian Finals was 3 20 minute rounds with 16 artists competing. To watch these artists start from a blank canvas and create some excellent works was really a terrific experience. I was also lucky enough to purchase one of the pieces at the end of the night. I was lucky enough that my girlfriend is an artist and she could explain to me the techniques being used. This event has helped me gain a new appreciation for paintings.

I can't believe after all these years last night was the first time I have ever visited the great Hall. It is great! I attended Art Battle 500 which was simply an amazing event, where artists have 20 mins to create an original work of art and the public vote on the best painting in each round then the finalists from those rounds have a great art battle for the title. What an amazingly cool event, with dj's spinning tunes, a few bars so you can grab a drink and two levels to check out and watch the artists paint and socialize with them afterwards. I loved the space, it would be amazing for any event with super nice staff and its an easy queen west location too. I highly recommend checking out the space for private events and definitely for Art Battle, I can't wait to attend the next one. Super fun cool night out.

This is a small theatre arranged like a night club, complete with tables on which you can places glasses etc. We went here to see the Against the Grain production of #UncleJohn, based on Mozart's Don Giovanni. The production was charming, and the space enhanced it.
