City getaway minutes from the city
Jul 2021
Great getaway from the city ... minutes away from the city. natural space with no dogs allowed. lots of joggers and cyclists. lots of coast for relaxing and fishing. there is some parking available near the trail but its not paved. otherwise you ll need to park further away and walk

Devastation by the cormorants
Jun 2020
Tommy Thompson Park is a gem for Torontonians. I love riding my bike over there when the weather warms up. My regrets are to see how much damages the Cormorants have done over the years to trees and the few beaches around. They have destroyed so many trees and it seems that their population is growing every year. We can't go to the few beaches anymore as they have invaded so much of it. The smell of droppings isn't so pleasant either and is quite toxic and in a time of pandemic this is hardly the time to have birds that spread their germs for everybody to inhale.

I hope something will be done soon otherwise they may also invade the Toronto Islands. I heard that oil on the eggs is a compassionate way to reduce their population. They do nest high in the trees so the use of drones certainly can only help,

If you like raw nature by the water, this is your place.
Jun 2019
A long park on a spit, you can walk for miles with great water views and also views of the Toronto Skyline.
Cold and windy in the winter, but lovely the rest of the year.
Only hassle is getting to the entrance which is east of downtown Toronto. If you don't have a car the transit system will get you to the non-descript area at the entrance to the park - bit of a wasteland near a sewage treatment plant.
Not a must-see, but if you like walking and water, and the weather is fine, you will have a nice afternoon.

What a fantastic place with snow everywhere and the sun shining
Mar 2020
Took a cab from downtown with my binoculars (as a new recruit to birdwatching). Loved it - views amazing. Despite my infancy with regards to birdwatching - successfully identified 10 new species (having traveled from England).

A special thank you to Mike - the ranger who was incredibly helpful.

I hope I can come back in the summer when I suspect the place is alive with wildlife.

Slice of country in the city
Aug 2019
Not sure about winter but certainly one of my favourite bike rides the rest of the year. Sometimes a bit crowded on weekends but large enough that you can find some personal space to get away from the maddening crowd.

Ride your bike or take a stroll. The vegetation and views are beautiful. The recent improvements to the cycle paths are great.

Enjoyable trail
Sep 2019 • Family
Had an enjoyable time riding our bikes along the 11km trail. The main trail is a wide paved road with lots of side paths to explore nature. Many people walk. Sign says no pets allowed. Nice scenery. Can see the beautiful Toronto skyline and the lake. There’s a light house at the very end if you make it there. There is free parking at the entrance and on the road outside. Several port-a-potties along the trail.

Leslie Spit is poorly maintained
Sep 2019
Leslie Spit in my favorite place to ride my bicycle. No cars, no off-leash dogs.
Beautiful views of the city. Nature at its best.
Unfortunately who ever is responsible for maintaining it is doing a poor job.. Labour Day Monday the park was crowded. The portable washrooms were overflowing and extremely dirty. What a shame!
