Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Imagine my surprise to learn this TripAdvisor store, which opened in December 2017 @ Pearson’s Terminal 1 (post-security), was actually the first such store to open in the WORLD! That’s crazy and kind of blows the mind. As a regular contributor to TripAdvisor, this store excited me. Perhaps I could finally get some cool TripAdvisor-branded merchandise like t-shirts or hats to wear on my various journeys? Or, at least some stickers or a pen? Unfortunately, all my initial excitement quickly vanished after I stepped into the world’s first TripAdvisor store. Why? Well, turns out it’s just your typical airport sundry shop with TripAdvisor branding. In this way, it reminded me of the random CNN store at Vancouver International Airport – branding only, nothing special about it. Admittedly it pains me to write those words, but perhaps I was expecting too much of an airport shop? Anyway, at least you can grab your airport essentials while experiencing the novelty of the TripAdvisor brand.

But all hope is not lost for us TripAdvisor fans. To help make this store an “exciting destination for its guests” (as per the Paradies Lagardère President and CEO), the space does feature an interactive screen that allows you to learn more about the Greater Toronto Area while also accessing and reading the latest TripAdvisor reviews . . . only, that’s hardly innovative! Even when this store opened at the end of 2017, we could still read these things on the TripAdvisor app!

Okay, so the store isn’t terribly exciting or innovative despite the fun branding. Maybe we can salvage the experience by thinking in this way: TripAdvisor, as a brand, is designed to help us better plan our trips. Visiting the TripAdvisor store, we can take this a step further by grabbing some of those key essentials that we might need while waiting at the boarding gate or sitting on the plane. There!

I am VERY disappointed with this store and would not recommend people to spend their money here !

Trip advisor, being a large corporation in itself: has been fair and super helpful. But today was outrageous. I know that airport stores Jack up prices for the sake of being in airport and able to do such. But I believe $7.90 for a chocolate bar is ridiculous! This being only one of the many overpriced items. Not only that but in the purchasing of the chocolate bar the two ladies who were working the store were more focused on eachother and their gossip, than rather me. I don’t make a fuss, or chit chat but she swiped my chocolate bar didn’t state the price of it and then tapped the machine to indicate where it was I should press my card and give her the money. If you are going to charge that much then it should be a requirement to say it! There are many others who may not understand or are too old to make sense of everything that will follow along, and I believe it is very wrong. If you are going to pick that price, then own it too!
