We rented camping gear for our trip. Everything was quality stuff and in good condition, and far less expensive than other options we could find. The sleeping bags did a good job to keep us warm in the cold mountain night, but remember to pack layers for sleeping!
There are a few things not on their list that you should bring of your own, like clothesline or rope, a lighter, and a hammock. And if you're not flying in a rubber mallet is helpful for the stakes.

We were recommended this store by a bar tender. It didn’t disappoint. Brilliant service, decent bikes for hire with helmets, friendly staff helping suggest routes.

We wandered off the Main Street and were very glad we did. The guys at snow tips provided us with brilliant equipment for our 8 days skiing in Banff. They were very friendly, informative and all priced competitively too. Crampons we bought and hires for our trip to Johnston canyon also excellent. Can’t fault them, highly recommend

Great, friendly staff. Offer of a local discount was appreciated. I told them in advance that i needed key to remove the battery to put the bike on Roam transit. When i picked up the bike, they would not provide me with the key and when getting on bus was told the battery had to be removed, which I couldnt do. It is due to the extra weight on the bike carrier. I wouldnt rent from bactrax again if they wont provide the battery key.

I had my own bike and rented a 2nd one for my husband. The staff were super accommodating and helpful with recommendations on trails. They even checked and pumped up my tires on my own bike. Then we rented ebikes for a day trip to Johnston canyon. Highly recommend renting ebike from them and doing that trip! Super fun and well worth it!

Family of 4, with 2 school age children. We called and made reservations for snowshoe and split board rentals. When we attended the store, the manager stated that she was sorry but the rental was not available. She was incredibly rude and hostile. She obviously did not care for our business. There are many other rental spots in Banff - I would recommend you choose another one!

Hi Leanne, We are very sorry for your experience in our store. When you called, we were renting out our backcountry equipment. But, as things were changing daily due to COVID-19, our store made the call to help the search and rescue staff and their diminishing resources. The Town of Banff, Parks Canada, and local Emergency Services had requested help on limiting the number of incidences in the backcountry. We therefore stopped renting out any backcountry touring equipment over that night. Our manager on that day tried to explain this, but unfortunately it did not come across that way. We understand all the frustration as most people’s stress levels were very high during these turbulent times. Again, we are sorry you ended up being on the unfortunate end of this decision. Once things calm down, please come back to the store again and let us show you why we have been voted the best rental store in town.

All arranged via a series of emails. Then when we arrived they got us kitted out (took ~45mins for a family of 4) and despite me bending my poles (oops) they were cool about it.

If I could give lower than 1 star, I would. Came in very excited for our day. Just wanted to rent some skates and ice cleats. Very quickly got annoyed. Watched the busy staff start helping whoever was in front of them, not the next person in line. Eventually we just grabbed our own skates and cleats and went to stand in line at the cash to pay. After about 45 minutes of standing around, helping ourselves, and constantly asking staff if someone could come help the line up at the cash register, we finally spoke sternly enough to someone that she came to help us. Again just leaving the people in front of us in line and ignoring them. Absolutely terrible service. I am now super pissed off and annoyed and if I knew anywhere else in town that rented what we wanted I would have left long ago. I work in town, and will not recommend people go to backtracks for rentals anymore. They have no system set up to help people properly/in order and the staff don’t seem to be able to multitask.

The staff were great and the prices were very reasonable to rent gear. I will continue to go back here when I visit Banff and would definitely recommend Bactrax if you need to rent in the mountains!

We hired mountain bikes to have a look around Banff. The staff were really knowledgeable and gave us great advice on which trails would suit our abilities and needs. The bikes were great and helmets came included. We hired on an hourly rate but they were flexible with flicking us to a day rate if we ended up staying out longer than planned. This meant we could enjoy the ride without worrying about deadlines. Very enjoyable ride with great friendly service. Would hire from here again no question!
