Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Chris and Del's ability to give my travellers an insight into the operation of and what life is like on a New Zealand sheep farm is incredible. A highlight of many of our travellers' visit to Canterbury it is always great to introduce visitors to NZ to people who you know are going to give them a great experience.

Iv been on a few horse treks in NZ, but this one far outweighs them all! Chris was a brilliant instructor and helped my husband who has never ridden a horse learn to ride well. My husband absolutely loved it. Such beautiful scenery too!

If you enjoy horseback riding and magnificent scenery, this is the ride for you. We took a 2 hour ride through farmland that lead to unbelievable views of the mountains, lakes, and more. Chris was our guide and he was also the owner of the horse farm. Chris described the area as his office. He was enthusiastic about helping people to ride, teaching you how to ride and control the horse. If you had the confidence to run the horse, you could with Chris' permission and instruction. Chris would allow you to ride single file or spread way apart while riding through the paddocks. If the horses were too close together (side by side) their instinct was to run. Most of our tour was on an adjacent farm where we experienced some of the most fantastic views, like nothing we had seen from the road. Midway through the ride, we stopped for photos, coffee or tea, and a light snack. Chris would give instruction and reminders to riders along the way. He genuinely wanted you to have the most fun and best experience as possible. I highly recommend this activity and would gladly do it again if in the area. However, I may opt for the 3 hour ride rather than the 2. You will need a car to get here from Christchurch. We rented a car. I think that Chris mentioned that he gets cruise ship clients as well. Just do it!

This farm is an hour’s drive outside of Christchurch. Chris and Dale (his wife) run the farm. In an hour, Chris provides an informative and fun narration of the inner workings of running a sheep farm. First, we start inside with a short discussion. Next, he demonstrates the use of dogs (both a border collie and a huntaway) to efficiently gather and move the sheep. There are also a few alpaca that you are allowed to pet. He allows time for photos with the alpaca and huntaway dog. Lastly, we go back inside where he demonstrates how to shear a sheep. Anyone that wants to can try their hand at shearing the sheep with the hand shears. Our group arranged for a lunch, so after Chris finished the demonstration, we had a lunch of lamb burgers, beef sausages, potatoes, salad, beets, and dessert with coffee or tea. Overall, an excellent experience! They also offer horse riding and jet boat rides at this same farm, but we did not do either of these during our visit.
