Helped me put things into perspective in understanding the human existence. Wonder what other things have yet to be revealed under the foundations of this church and city

Those crazy Christians. Basically, just like the Egyptians-just love their dead to pieces. All kidding aside, this is a holy site, show respect. No bikini's, shorts or flip flops. That means you guys too!

Difficult to visit as only open certain times. Very interesting as all the mummies looked so different

Spooky - don't miss it...a sort of mini version of the mummies in Palermo catecombs. Nothing to buy and you're not meant to take pics but nobody stops you.

Remains dating back to the 1400s are preserved and apparently revered. Worth a visit. Note: The steps leading down to the crypt are quite steep and fairly high.

We visited Oria and Basilica with an English speaking tour guide who was very well informed, and passionate about the history of Oria. The crypt was definitely the highlight of the tour. Highly recommended.

There is no doubt that a visit to see the mummies has an element of sensationalism, however, there is much more. It is a place of contemplation that gets the mind whirring. There is a reverence associated with the place.
