Nice walk along the mole with many birds flying around and views all the way to Oamaru and the white dusted hills. Did not get any fish, a lot of kelp (think it is) around.

A long breakwater
Jun 2019 • Couples
Stretching about one and a half kilometres off the point, The Mole makes for excellent walking with lots of scenery to take in. We were lucky - it was a calm day with little wind, calm seas and a tropical 11 degrees or so. We saw four seals - just resting on the rocks, as well as two sea lions on the beach at the beginning of the mole/spit/breakwater. It was a lovely fine day walk - can only imagine how rugged it would be on a gusty day. Easy to park and there were park benches if you bring your picnic.

Dress warmly!
Apr 2019 • Couples
The mole is amazing, so much wildlife to see, from gulls and shags to fur seals, penguins and albatrosses. But it can be very cold and lots of tourists were woefully under-dressed in April. It was sad that so many walked the length of the sea wall, took a couple of selfies and walked back, seemingly oblivious of the amazing animals and birds around them. Take binoculars and watch the albatrosses on the other side of the peninsula - for free!
