Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The beach is so beautiful and surrounded by reefs. Perfect for snorkeling! Beautiful live coral reefs and lots of fish. It’s quiet, not touristy. No food no drinks. Just pure relaxing on the beach

First off, I want to make sure you know - this is a review of the beach that is near the little town of Chemuyil. This is a beach with a small, potholed road with hardly any signage and, yes, they charge 84 pesos/person to enter by car or by foot (you can walk here in about 20 min from Chemuyil). It is just a beach, no amenities short of a small bathroom with outside showers. Bring your own shade. There is none on the beach. Perfect for snorkelers, my family saw schools of fish, large saltwater fish, stingrays and even a turtle. We spent about five hours here and there aren't many people. This is most likely one of the last non commercialized beaches left in the area. We loved it! Respect the reef! Wear nontoxic sunscreen. Don't walk or stand up beyond a few meters into the water - this is the reef and your big fat feet will ruin the corals. You'll see all sorts of reef activity even near the shore. Come to swim, rest, and enjoy nature!

Note: This is not Akumal nor it is a resort that controls the beach, (which others have gotten confused and inadvertently reviewed here). There is no promise to swim with turtles. There are no guides or any commercialization. It is a reef sanctuary.

First time we went here we were told that Cenote is closed so we returned. when we went again we were told it is closed forever. We still payed 84peso per person but we were only able to stay there for 45 min as we did not had any idea about time difference when coming from Yucatan state. They ask you to leave the beach at 3:45pm and the showers do not work.
Entrance fees is a bit too much with the way it is taken care since the shower was closed and a dirt road you must be careful to drive your car through to discover that Cenote was closed.

My family and I were at Xcacel beach during Christmas 2018. It's a beautiful, quiet beach. The lady at the front and the man in the parking area were really nice and helpful the 2 times we visited this beach. However, the second day we arrived the man who was charging my brother in law (who does not speak Spanish) tried to trick him into giving him $100 less pesos than were owed to him. Luckily, my sister caught on and the man admitted to the mistake but it would be hard to argue that it was an accident based on the situation. Just know that it is $81 pesos a person if you are not Mexican and always count your change!

First of all, you must avoid all the people who will try to rent you a life jacket for $100 pesos each one by lying you saying is mandatory to wear it if you want to swim with the turtles, so don't believe it and keep your way to the main entrance. (I will post a photo from the boot where I paid the money foolishly)
In Akumal beach are several sections open to swim but be aware, there is one forbidden (where the turtles actually spend more time) so nobody is allow to be in it.
If you want to swim with "turtles" you must pay for a guide to be able to do so.

I love this place! Beautiful beach with azureblue water and white sand. The beach is full of turtle nests so beware not to step into them. There's a cenote nearby. We didn't went there but it's said to be worth a go.
The beach closes for tourists at 5 pm and the cenote closes at 4pm in order to protect the wildlife.

this beach was such a treat. Off the beaten path and a bit hard to find but well worth the drive from Playa. Very few people and beautiful water. Spent a few hours on the beach and took a 10 minute trail walk to the most gorgeous cenote. Saw iguanas of all sizes, a small snake and a few other "jungle type animals". The cenote was ice cold and crystal clear - it must have been 10+ feet deep but clear enough to see the bottom easily. The jungle surrounding the water gave it a beautiful blue green tint. Could have stayed her all day.
