Curious about all the silver shops in Taxco we took this tour to get some background and history. The tour is only a few pesos and lasts about 40 minutes. Included in the price of admission is a beverage at the end of the tour: water, beer, margaritas, etc. Our guide, Arturo, spoke perfect English and he kindly offered to take photos along the way. The history of how this mine was discovered (recently, hence its location inside a hotel!) and the steps the locals took to hide it from the Spanish, is fascinating. It’s also great to see how silver begins its life on this earth. Afterwards, enjoy a cervesa poolside under the gaze of another Taxco wonder, their beautiful stone mural. It’s a historical two for one!

We went on a lark as the manager at the hotel recommended it.
It was surprisingly good. We all donned hard hats and went down in a real slow elevator. Lots of mineral deposits were pointed out and the guide was very good. I don’t know if they have English speaking guides.

Spent a lot of time in a very cave-like man-made mine that was accidentally discovered not that long ago. Overall, very decent bang for the buck.

We recommend the tour and if your Spanish is not the best then ask for Alphonso aka "Pancho". He had the english required to explain the history, geology and mineralogy more than adequately. He also made the tour fun and there were some surprise guests!

I won't go over any of the historical info shared by the tour guide, I'll leave that to guides.
Found under an old hotel, an elevator and stairs, after stairs you get to the bottom an enormous space damped and manicured for tourists, yes just for you guys.
The ride to the bottom is a slow but consistent pace of listening and eye learning experience and after a short explanation of the ancient mining methods and you're on ur way up and the learning, eye and tactile experience continues more than 10 stories up. $150 pesos is well worth the price definitely a group activity, the pool side drink that comes with the ticket is needed after the walk.

As others have said, the steps down then back up are challenging. The guide has a microphone & was very clear but it’s only in Spanish & I don’t have all the vocabulary to understand what he said. Lighting is excellent for a mine. Hard hats are given out & are necessary for a couple of areas. Bring small change for tips.

My girlfriend grew up in Taxco and used to work in the silver industry, so she had been to the mine before, but still enjoyed the tour and found it very interesting, as did I. Our tour guide was top notch and provided us with a lot of insight and historical facts that made the tour very interesting. I highly recommend it because knowing the history of Taxco makes the town seem even more magical. Plus, it's a great way to get out of the sun and cool off on a hot summer day!

Went to Taxco from Mexico City with Mexcity Tours. Included in our Taxco tour was a natural mine where we got a tour inside. There is an interesting story on how they discovered a mine in this location. There use to be a dancing club above ground. The drunk patrons use to bang their head on the low ceiling when passing through a hall. The owners of the establishment decided they were going to dig up the floor to make more room so the patrons could walk through more easily and that is when they discovered a mine below. They give you a hair net and a hard hat to wear before you go in the elevator shaft to go down in the mine. If you want to take photos there is a group charge. There was another larger Spanish tour group that took the same tour. The tour guide from the mine only spoke Spanish, After the tour, upstairs we all had a Minero cocktail included. It was quite nice made with Mescal, pineapple juice, mineral water and the rim of glass is rubbed with pepper.

I'm claustrophobic and averse to super tourist-y tourist attractions, but I decided to keep my husband company - he did after all indulge my desire to drink pulque in Tepotzlán.

While our guide did not speak English, one of the other two participants on our tour did and she translated for us, which helped us to get much more out of it. Ergo - if you don't speak Spanish, try to arrange to go with someone who can translate, or an English speaking guide. (I did appreciate the guide's attempt to speak very slowly and clearly in hopes we'd catch some.)

i'm glad our group ponied up the communal fee for taking photos - the guide had several spots where he organized us into poses with miners' helmets, lit by flashlight. Hokey, but among a very select few photos of us together in our 23 year marriage!

Your admission includes a drink in the historic hotel's bar. Get that cocktail with mezcal, seltzer and pineapple or lime. It was lovely. Sip it by the pool while admiring the view and a giant mosaic.

I went to Taxco for half a day and was told to visit this mine in order to get a grasp of the history of the city's silver production. This is an abandoned mine 500 years ago and lies just under the basements of a colonial hotel. Kinda small compared to other mines I have visited but it was very interesting, Mario the guide was very knowledgeable and made a very good visit throughout. At the end they offer you a cocktail by the pool of the hotel with very nice views of the town. Definitely recommended
