Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We really loved this experience. So many beautiful textiles to see. During our visit they also had an amazing installation of marionettes and puppets on the lower level.
Also, the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán next to the museum is probably the most beautiful (IMO) of all of the churches and cathedrals in San Cristobol de las Casas.
A must see! But, be forewarned, this place is not easy to find! The tourist map and google maps took us pretty far off off the beaten path. We gave up and accidentally found it on our way back to the city center. The whole property is encompassed by artisan and curio tents. It's hard to find an access point. But, don't give up! It's worth the adventure!

Exellent museum. Gorgeous examples of Mayan handicrafts and artistry. The museum is in a lovely former cloister and the displays are well designed and user friendly. Be sure to look into every drawer! This is my third visit in 20 years and I hope to return again. Another bonus is that it is right beside an HUGE open air market with similar merchandise. But visit the museum first before shopping. (The museum’s gift shop sells amazing pieces, but at a mark-up.)

We had looked forward eagerly to this museum, but alas it was closed, as was the church next door. Our landlord explained that it was due to structural damage from the 2017 earthquake, so even lifting Covid-19 restrictions won't result in its reopening any time soon.

A wonderful collection of textiles. If you love textiles, be sure to give yourself time to really take a look and enjoy. The museum shop is not always open when it says so I missed the opportunity to make several purchases before I had to leave. I would definitely go back to visit!!

Excellently displayed collection of traditional regional dress. Best museum configuration of textiles I have seen anywhere!

As an ex weaver (many years ago I studied textiles at college) I was fascinated to discover this place on our 2 night stopover in St Cristobal, during our tour of Mexico.
The place has a calm, tranquil air & the main exhibits are interesting, although a shame the information is only in Spanish.
Upstairs is the main textile museum, with interesting videos in loop showing traditional methods of weaving & dyeing yarn.
The exhibits are displayed well in glass cabinets, some on mannequins & there are many drawers to slide out to examine other exquisite pieces of fabric.
We sat for a while in the lovely cloister courtyard & it made a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of the town.
Do go & visit this gem if you're in the area.

I'm not much into fashion or weaving but I have to say I really enjoyed this museum! Set in a refurbished convent (I think) the clothing and textiles are lovingly displayed in such a way that one not only learns a lot about the special clothing of the region but also gains respect and admiration for the craftsmanship involved. An added bonus is the adjacent SCDLC history museum which offers some truly interesting artifacts particularly from the Colonial period...oh, and the old church next door (which wasn't open when I visited) has a gorgeous facade. Btw, these museums are a particularly good choice on a rainy wet season afternoon and can be combined with the handicraft market next door.

This is the best possible place for anyone interested in some of the most beautiful local textiles, both new and antique, in an extremely attractive and cool and pleasant setting. It's also a welcome break from the hustle and bustle outside and has a little shop with extremely high quality, but not very cheap, items.

This is an incredible museum. A collection of local ethnic groups' textiles covering Chiapas and into Central America. Besides the clothes on display yoiu can also open dozens of trays with other clothes. This was a real treat.

anyone ever spend the night in San Lorenzo de Zinacantan? If so, do you have the name? I'd like to see the Sunday market from beginning to end so I was thinking about arriving Saturday night.

Do you recall the admission price for Adults?

It's a free admission for the textile museum. Only the historical museum that is in the same building charges a small admission fee.

Is it possible to visit the museum if we arrive in Puerto Chiapas on a cruise ship? My wife is a weaver and we would like to see the museum if it is possible to get there in one day by taxi from Puerto Ciapas.

Hi Henri!, unfortunately Puerto Chiapas is far from San Cristobal, (5-6 hrs. max. by car one way) all depends on the hours you have available to come and go, if you need more help let me know!
