Three floor-to-ceiling intricately carved reredos covered with gold leaf are found in this large temple. Huge paintings (about 15’ x 10’) by Luis Monroy in the 19th century adorn the side walls. Built with money from the Valenciana mine its patron saint is Saint Cajetan...More

Get there before to have a nice look around and quiet contemplation before tours start coming in around 10am. A small outside market in on then square and the mining tour entrance is just down the street.

Located a little outside the city, this is a beautiful church from the 1700s. The exterior is made from a beautiful, pinkish stone that is local. Apparently the outside was never completed, so there is one tower only. The inside has fine examples of Churrigeresque architecture...More

This is a wonderful church, with three amazing carved altar pieces, the main altar and the two side altars. Really of the first quality. The view from the Church to the hills around and over the city of Guanajuato is also well worth seeing.

Beautiful church mostly detailed in gold! There’s a mine just to the right of it so it gets it from there. The detail is incredible! There is lots to do around the church too! Great place to go!

Excellent church, but I can’t say that we had an excellent time seeing it. For one thing, the bus stop from Guanajuato was difficult to find, and once we found it, we waited nearly 30 minutes. The trip ended up being fairly brief, perhaps 10...More

The church is impressive and near one of the silver mines. Pay a visit and then head on down to the mine to hear the story behind this church and why it's decorated in head-to-toe in gold.

There are three alters, one in the nave and two in the transepts. Each is 3-stories high, baroque heavily ornamented, and decorated in gold leaf. Amazing! This church celebrates the mother lode of silver discovered next door,
