This place is awesome. Great vibes! Insightful exploration of a families tequila business. Michael was such a pleasure to meet that I'll be back with my partner to meet him in August!

Not worth it
Jul 2021 • Friends
I did particularly enjoy it. I tasted better tequilas than this. I had a headache after drinking it. They claim it's smooth and I don't think so. I think it's more of a tourist trap. I wanted to see there production but what i saw were machines that are not actually being used. Not worth it in my opinion.

We took the tour to the Botanical Gardens, which were wonderful!! Highly recommended!

Part of the tour took us to Rancho Verano where Don Chendo tequilla is made. It's a bit of a tourist trap with expensive (but tasty) food and a tequila drinking session leading to purchasing bottles. After 5 shots, lets say we were all in a good mood to buy. The product cannot be called 'tequilla' and must be called 'Destilado de Agave' because they use green agave in place of blue agave. Not a fact that was highlighted in the presentation.
After only one shot, I started getting a headache. By the time we were home it was a full blown head throbbing headache. My wife also experienced the same effect. It lasted into the next day. Overall I would avoid the drinking and eating at Rancho Verano. Not worth the money. Not worth the headache. IMHO

The Greatest!!!

If I only came one place this trip, Rancho Verano would have been a great choice. A short ride out of the city to this beautiful ranch earned us an informative tour from our hilarious host Freddie, who then kept refilling our tequila glasses from a seemingly endless series of varieties of their artisanal tequila, each more delicious than the last. Once we drank our weight in liquid gold, we walked upstairs for an incredible meal of local seafood. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. A+. 10,000 stars. 50 points for Gryffindor.

The first hour and last hour of our day was picking up and dropping off passengers.
The tour most definitely guides you to specific stops where souvenirs are overpriced.
Over all it was a good way to see parts of the area you would not likely venture too on your own.

If you like tequila you must go here. Sample eight shots of different flavors of tequila. Very informative and lots of fun.

Fun place to come and learn about Tequila, plus lots of samples and good prices. Jose was great at explaining the process. Also a good restaurant next door.

The Real Deal - A Dream Come True!
Oct 2020
I came a long road from first time visiting Mexico 5 years ago and staying in an AI in Riviera Maya... we were supposed to actually stay in Puerto Vallarta in also an AI but the hurricane at the time changed our plans last minute... and I am glad it happened so because those 5 years pushed me to start renting cars everywhere we go rather than staying just on the resort - and here we are... we drove out and visited a true Tequila Distillery!!!

I have visited about 10 rum distilleries in Caribbean (big rum lover here and its history and cultural aspect), I have been to Jack Daniel's in TN so to have a chance to go to an actual Tequila distillery was a dream come true, and big thanks to Jose who an absolute true spirit of this experience! You rule man!

The drive (we stayed in Boca de Tomatlan) was easy at about 10minutes long (about 30-45minutes from PV) to the town that is called Aguacate and there are some other places that are Tequila businesses (one of them called Baston del Ray I reviewed here separately, FYI google shows it wrong as it's on a completely other side of this small village/town - across the main Route 200) and a small coffee beans shop (I created a separate profile here called Cafe Hacienda Maria Bonita) - super safe and nice friendly village so if you are not part of an organized tour don't worry drive here and say you want tp do the tour - it's free (tip nicely though) and you can purchase Tequila afterwards - they accept credit cards!
